Thus, when her truck is gone we know we have mail in our box. This is convenient because our mail doesn't go through a slot in our door, plus it can get damp if left in our mailbox too long. Knock on wood, but so far we haven't had any mailbox or Amazon thefts in my immediate neighborhood. I think the numbers of us home at various times of the day helps. His name is Fred, and he's a Washington Redskins fan, and he's been known to talk trash about the Cowboys to my dad by the mailbox for an hour. Usually we'll get him a coke out of the fridge if he's got time to stop. I did learn that some customers are very rude to them, so knowing some "friendlies" are on their route helps brighten their day. Our office has a water bottle filler and clean bathrooms we make sure drivers know they can use. My current guy is Kevin, but today Rand, my guy for YEARS, dropped by to say Hello since my neighbor who had promised him applesauce wasn’t home. What a treat! Since he bought a house in the far ‘burbs, he tries to work late three nights per week so he’s not driving home at the peak of rush hour and maybe I will see him again even though he has changed his route.</p> <p>City life isn’t always impersonal! </p>
