I'm late, I missed this thread the first time around, but I'm in too.

I guess that could be an issue here, some people missing the book group entries. The forum moves so fast these days and even though I thought I was keeping up I totally missed this thread. Maybe we should have a special place to go to find the book group conversation, plus have it here so others can stumble across it too like I just did.

Sounds like fun!

I like to idea of planning a few choices out, so we can track down books with plenty of time to locate and read.

I also like the idea of movies - easy and quick What about alternating a book and a movie. It would give extra time on those books if they only came up every other month. . .

Anyway, count me in - my first book club

I'm late but interested too. I like the idea of a calendar in order to plan ahead. I also like the idea of alternating books and movies. As much as I want to read a book a month, realistically I probably can't stick to that much reading unless it's pretty short.

Oh I think this sounds like a lot of fun. As far as genre I would like to see a variety. Perhaps start with a style advice book, then move to a personality/biography, then maybe a history or focus on a certain era. And would love to do movies as well. Again alternating between documentary/history and fiction. Ooh, how about the occasional double feature? Perhaps comparing the original version of The Women with the remake. Or a history/ documentary paired with a related fiction movie?

Thanks for all the input so far everyone!

There are quite a few votes already for one book a month, and some for every other month. Whatever we decide on, it goes without saying that you can join in whenever you have time, only participate when a title really speaks to you etc. etc.

A few of us are already reading "Parisian Chic", so I'll definitely put it on the list of good candidates.

Elly: those are all very good points, we'll definitely keep this in mind. Perhaps we can compile a Book Club calendar before we officially start things off. Say an overview of the titles we'll be talking about for the next 4 months or so. That way everyone has a bit of time to get hold of the books and read them at their own pace.

Biscuitsmom: That's awful, I'm so sorry-(( I hope your hand feels better today? We're also thinking of discussing movies, so hopefuly you can join in there?

How do you guys feel about alternating books with movies? Would you prefer to keep them separate, and perhaps have two threads going each month or are you alright with mixing things up?

I would be interested. My only qualm would be getting the books in time for an affordable price. Some of the newer style and fashion books can run 15 bucks a pop which is more than some of us can afford to spend every month without the opportunity to find them elsewhere. My local libraries don't buy them and we don't have a good used book source. Of course, I would prefer to purchase from YLF books -- but that is probably 100 dollars or more to find each year. I would have to order all the books online and sometimes it can take 2+ weeks to get mail here. That would leave me what-- a week to read the book?

Probably silly, but might be something to consider when choosing times to announce the new book and the spacing of books.

This sounds like a fun idea. I think if it were once a month I would sometimes be in and sometimes out depending on what other kind of commitments I had going on, but once a month is probably a good way to start. Mmm. nibbles...
