I used to hate uggs and couldn't understand why adult woman wear them.We got them for our 16 yr old daughter a couple of years ago. One evening I needed to run an errand really quick and didn' t feel like getting socks and her uggs were right by the door so I slipped them on( her feet are bigger than mine) and ran out to the car.... I couldn' believe how warm and comfy I felt. From then on I understood why people wear them- but still didn't want to spend this much money ( in Germany they are very pricey!) on such an ugly shoe... Well a couple of month ago I got them on sale( still 160€) and LOVE them. I wear them on my way to the gym,or running errands, usually paired with skinny jeans or work out wear when on my way to gym. I love that I can just slip them on without socks. Here in Germany I see " middleaged" woman wear them with skinny jeans and in a stylish way!

I have a pair of the classic mid-calf in black. My son is a swimmer so I pull them on at the crack of dawn put a long coat over my pi's and drive him to the pool! They feel so cozy it's almost worth getting up. I also wear them as "slippers" over my skinnies in the house on days when I'm coming and going but wearing leather boots to go out.

I can totally see why people wear them all the time but I have not yet worn them out as part of a real outfit. I'm worried it would be a slippery slope.

I had some fake ones when I lived in Vancouver and they were okay, but no way would Uggs work in the deep snow and slush of Montreal. I need serious grip on my winter boots, They are awfully comfy though.

All the high school girls wear them here and they tell me that the traditional ones are just like wearing slippers only they aren't very waterproof. I wanted a pair for a while but when I found out they weren't waterproof that killed it for me. That said, I do like the brand and the other styles that I've seen on the forum look well made and stylish.

Australian UGG: Am writing without having read above first.

Australia is the source of the current sheepskin Ugg but I am pretty sure they came from Vikings - hence the name ;)

Of course Australians wear them. I imagine the comments above will attest to the indoor nature of the beast, for style. Unless of course, there is a deliberate counterpoint kind of styling going on, which is pretty common too in urban style, that is.

However, there has been an international discovery of our previously undiscovered contribution to haute couture, and it pre-dated the girl named after a hotel's pink foot being photographed in them. I don't think she is that avant guard is she?

Anyway - the Uggs have been swanning it out there for a while in the celeb/fashion world (possible tautology?).

I think most Australians would appreciate that as a folk story, in the tradition of, The Ugly Duckling' by Hans Christian Anderson, kind of way.

All that aside too, they are my staple indoor footwear for most of the year but they don't get out of the car. I recognise however, that this is just a short step until I do go into a shop with them. You know - like the news agency..I could could go on..... I do love the humble Ugg and its addition to history

ETA - always get caught by what I think is an automatic inserter of a grocer's apostrophe. it also does it to its in wrong spots. Am I blaming the tools?

I had a pair (faux-Uggs, not real) some 7-8 years ago. They were pretty great in winter, actually - very nice and warm, and trust me, it's not wet at all when temps get to -10 Celsius But yeah, if you don't have sub-zero temperatures that often, they are not very practical.

I have the classic, but made of smooth leather. So they are marginally better. Frankly I don't like them because I feel like the sole isn't substantial for wear. Also NO arch support. They're not even good for commuting.
The kicker is when Ugg does a real shoe they're great. But they have cheaped out lately. I literally wore to death a pair of fully shearling lined waterproof lugg soled ankle boots. I never found a replacement because ever since then they don't really make fully lined boots anymore, just the footbed.

No one would bat an eye where I live because every woman between the ages of 8 and 35 is wearing them. (Waving to Glory...we live near each other.) But the classic slipper kind seem impractical to me in our weather conditions. Yes, they'd be nice and warm, but we get rain, freezing rain, snow, slush, all winter They look pretty awful all salt stained and grubby. So I haven't bought a pair and won't. I don't see anything wrong with wearing them as slippers, though.

OK, I'll admit it- I love my Uggs!
I've got the classic black boots, and they are SOOO comfy! I wear them for things like running out to get the mail, playing outside with the grandkids in the winter, and HORRORS!- the occasional trip to the drugstore, etc. Nobody bats an eye at that where I live.

I also have the moccasin-style Ugg slippers that I wear around the house. Pure comfort and warmth! I highly recommend them.

I own a pair of their lower priced cousins, Bearpaw. Last year I awoke on Christmas morning to find eight pairs of Bearpaw boots under the Christmas tree. Seriously, eight pairs! DH said, "I heard these are fashionable so I knew you would like them." Turns out he had purchased a multitude of sizes and colors and told me, "You can keep them all if they fit." Fortunately, they didn't fit - well, seven pairs didn't fit. One pair did, so I kept those and I've worn them with skinny jeans. I never did have the heart to tell DH that I don't really care for them. He was so excited and had spent so much time ordering them, and he was so disappointed when I tried them all on and they didn't fit. At least I got a beautiful watch and a few other things with the return money!

I have a pair of Ugg 'Coquette' slippers - and these have never been worn out of the house. I don't have any Ugg brand boots or anything along those lines.

You know what though? The Ugg Coquette slippers are the best slippers I've ever owned - amazingly comfortable and really well made. Top quality and super comfortable. They are pretty expensive for slippers, and yet - they are the best of the best. Nothing comes even close to the quality and comfort of my Ugg slippers!

Yeah... I'm trying to think of any tactful way to word this... in our area, the people i most frequently see in Uggs do only wear them with pajama pants. In fact, pajama pants, stained holey sweatshirts, and a cloud of BO are all pretty common amongst the folks I encounter at the store around here. As a result, I have developed what borders on a phobia that I will somehow not notice myself sliding down into a state where I don't even bother to put on real pants anymore. I think I'm way more neurotic about it than is probably necessary. Ha ha.

See, I think this is all about environmental context. Where I live you can go to the store in your ski gear. No one will look twice. And that makes sense for where I live. I would not think twice about wearing classic Uggs out on an errand, provided it was casual and I was wearing non-PJs. Maybe we are just at the bottom of the slope!

I am wearing $15 Walmart Ugg rip-offs right this minute! ONLY in the house though. Since we moved to a new place with hardwood floors, I needed something warmer and more substantial than my old socks with grippy bits on the bottom. My whole ankles and calves get cold easily too, so this was a perfect solution.

But I have never once worn them out anywhere. If I feel tempted, I give myself a stern lecture along the lines of, "Oh, so you think it might be OK to wear those to the store, do you? Well then why don't you just wear your pajams pants out too, like all those other people do? And at that point, why bother combing your hair?" LOL. And then I put on some real clothes, because that's a slope I'm not sliding down.

I have some black ones I wore as slippers around the house when it was really cold & my mom borrowed them as they were great for post foot surgery.

Around here many girls from 13-22 or so wear them. And some of the teenagers actually wear the slip on slippers as "shoes" to school.

I have had a pair for five or so years (the suede boot version with fuzzy inside), and I wear them regularly, but mainly as footwear to and from trailheads (trail running, skiing, climbing) or in a mountain town while traveling for skiing/climbing/etc, and when car camping, assuming it is not a total downpour. They've held up miraculously well, despite me not putting much effort into taking care of them. In the city, I occasionally slip them on to take the dog out real quick, but don't otherwise trot around in them.

I have several pairs. My current fave are these, in black:
http://www.uggaustralia.com/wo....._color=BJB

Uggs are things people love to hate on, and it seems to carry social/fashion currency to say you think they are ugly or would never wear them. IMO, however, Uggs are a lot better looking than many other "sensible" shoes, and they are certainly on par with other snow boots (most of which are built for practical concerns and not fashionable ones). The main part is that they are cozy and comfortable. I currently have a meniscus tear and Uggs are one of the less painful things I can wear.

Every single high school girl I see has on a pair of Uggs or Ugg look alikes. They are especially fond of the chocolate brown and tan coloured ones. Lots and lots of arena moms have them as well - at least in my neck of the woods. They are very warm and cozy. They are pretty fab in our climate.

People tend to wear them here in NYC with some skinnies for a casual look. I'm not particularly fond of them (plus I think taking care of them is a hassle because of the wet and often salty conditions NYC is in during the colder times).

Can't say much else about anything else though, sorry!

I do - after seeing twenty-something dancers wear them to and from my ballet class. They are a guilty pleasure for me - ugly and out of fashion - but oh so warm and comfy. The dancers wear them with skinny jeans and look wonderful (of course)
