I do remember being extremely drunk. I was&nbsp;nearly 15. I'd gone to England by myself for the first time (my parents and brother were to come several weeks later) and I was staying with my auntie and uncle, and my party-loving cousins who were several years older than me. I was at one of those weekend horse shows, the kind where everybody travels to get there and sleeps in their&nbsp;horsebox or caravan (trailer). The teenagers would all disappear at night and get into all kinds of trouble. My cousin didn't see a problem with letting me drink an awful lot and make out in the back of a caravan with some boy I didn't know. I think it's more a testament to England's drinking culture than anything.</p> <p>I don't come from Rachylou's world, but I can relate to the "getting on with it" at 28 or 30. I happened to meet the right guy in my early twenties, but I didn't &nbsp;get married for quite a few years, and certainly didn't entertain the idea of a baby until I was 30. And then we were the first of our circle to have a baby, by &nbsp;a lot. I remember a girl in my college dorm who told me about her cousin. The cousin was 20 and had been married several years and had two children. It astonished me that anyone would do that on purpose, as the cousin clearly had. My own mother was 31 when I, her first child, was born. </p> <p>Just a completely different program in my world. At 18, you get a string of pearls and come down from the nursery to smoke and drink in the presence of adults. After a few months of this, you go off to college to drink and smoke with your peers in public, then you do Bofu Botswana to drink and smoke with foreign peoples, then you go back to college to drink and smoke while wearing tweed. Finally, around 28-30, you start getting on with it. You stop drinking and smoking when you get pregnant.
