Agree with everyone else who has commented: size up. I'm normally an 8/10 petite, and wear a 12 petite in the Lady Day.

This is all very helpful (and much as I suspected from the photos on the website -- it seems like this coat is quite a slim fit in the top, so those itty bitty zero sizes are not for most grown women, even if they're on the smaller side).

Thank you to everyone who has chimed in so far, and to anyone who will chime in going forward! Tanya, I will look for your recent posts on this coat.

I had a burgundy one from about 3 or 4 years ago with thinsulate. I sized up. I have wide shoulders and a large rib cage. I ended up getting rid of the coat because it was so tight when I buttoned it over a sweater or whatever. It was a beautiful coat, though.

I have a few Lady Daycoats, but they are 3+ years old. I normally wear a size P4 in J Crew tops and jackets, but sized up to a P6 for the Lady Daycoats. I am an inverted triangle, so I needed to accommodate my shoulders, but the coat is still fitted through the torso.

Hi April, I have recently bought it in blue in my usual size, 2. I am on my phone now so I can not link to it but I had a whole K/R post on the coat with lots of details that you can easily find under my recent posts.
Size 2 is my usual size for outerwear, and I found the fit just about right, including shoulders and bust, where the coat is fitted but not snug. I can wear it over light to medium weight sweaters, basically all other than super chunky thick ones. My shoulders are pretty square.

My Lady Day coat with thinsulate is from about 3 years ago, so I'm not sure if the fit has changed since then. I had to size up - but note that I lift weights and my arms are far from skinny. My measurements are 34-28-38 and my coat is size 8 petite. It still is very streamlined on me - I can't put a ton of layers under it. Petite sizing may be more fitted than regular sizing too so maybe a regular sized member can chime in.

Would anyone who has the J Crew Lady Day coat -- preferably the one with Thinsulate -- be willing to describe the fit? Did you buy your normal size? Did you find the shoulder fit snug? What about the bust, and how did your winter clothes fit underneath?

It used to be that dressy winter coats started at a size 2, and even the smallest among us found a 2 quite small enough. With J Crew now offering a 0, a 00, and a 000 in addition to a 2, I'm not sure what to think and I don't want to go through a tedious cycle of purchases and returns, so I turn to the generous ladies of YLF.

Any guidance would be much appreciated.
