Offhand, I'd say the most was eBay (different sellers), then Poshmark and Kohl's. Also Nordstrom (thanks to NAS recently), Lands' End, Dillard's, Amazon, and Sperry.

As far as brands go, I need to update my Finds to be sure. Once I do that I will update in more detail. Interesting question!

Most of my purchases, to no surprise, come from the second-hand, pre-loved universe, preferably in my neighborhood
b & m shops. Some of the brands include:
COS
Essentiel Antwerp
Anthropologie (especially Maeve and Pilcro)
Talbots
Ralph Lauren
Quince ( love their cotton sweaters!)
Karen Millen
Hope for Flowers by Tracy Reese
Cole Haan
Naturalizer
Mango (surprisingly good quality for the price)
J. Crew
Petal and Pup
Calvin Klein
Ted Baker
Aimee Kestenberg
Franco Sarto
Rag and Bone
Boden
Gap

Despite the lengthy brand list, I do a lot of ruthless culling during my February and upcoming August closet audits. Goodbye to cardigans, cropped flare, casual pants, and anything that doesn't work for where I am currently on my style journey.

I shop local as much as possible, at the boutiques and consignment shops, but very few purchases this year compared to past years. A couple things from Etsy and Big Warehouse too, but there really hasn't been much that has interested me.

I've made about 21 (!!!) wardrobe purchases this year (this includes a few special occasion items, accessories, and a couple pairs of shoes). It also includes a few dress pants that I needed due to my job. I'm rationalizing haha! In fact, this is on pace with my usual 3 items per month purchasing tendency, which I seem to always hit despite my efforts to reduce it *sigh*

Of these, more than a third are from Uniqlo (shown below). The rest are a smattering of stores - Artizia, Dynamite, H&M, BR, resale, Reitmans, Brown's Shoes, Naturalizer ...

Just got back from vacation and coming late to this thread. Like Jaime, I’m impressed by how you ladies keep track of the numbers. My surprising clothing sources this year have been Amazon and thrift stores. It’s been years since I shopped thrift — I had stoped thrifting because it seemed like I was never finding anything good. But something moved me to try again this year. And my summer workhorse has been a thrifted Talbot skirt, I also found an Eileen fisher sweater. And Amazon well, hmm, I was searching high and low for black linen pants and a friend suggested Amazon. The pants I found fit beautifully. What a surprise.

I live in a rural area with limited B&M options. I have become a convert to online shopping. When I shop online, I stick to brands that work for me. Lululemon is a good fit, and I am usually the same size in most styles. The same goes for Citizens of Humanity jeans. I also keep buying the same footwear because it works for me.

So far this year, I have purchased nineteen pieces. Ten of those were B & M, and nine were online.

The breakdown is as follows:

B & M:
1 pair of winter dress boots - Olang
2 toques - Smartwool
2 pairs of mitts to match the toques - Smartwool
Teal tote bag
Olive Winter (for me Spring) Coat - Columbia
Olive Effortless Pant - Aritizia
Olive Bomber - Aritizia
Olive Blouse - Aritizia

Online:
Dark Brown Long Sleeved Yoga Top - Lululemon
Toffee Ballet Flats - Dr. Liza - Poshmark
Denim Shirt - Frank & Eileen - Poshmark
White Blouse - Velvet - Poshmark
Khaki Button-Up - Everlane
Denim Shorts - Everlane
Olive Linen Shirts - POMP
Burnt Orange Linen Tee - Harly Jae
White Watercolour Sneakers - Finn Comfort

I’ve had a clothing rebuilding year (well, about 9 months so far) after a rapid weight loss due to health issues. Nothing fit so I’ve had to clear out room for new clothes (no space to store multiple sizes). I’ve shopped mostly online and have tried to be judicious in my purchases—one new pair of jeans for three I had to let go, for example.

Nordstrom
Bloomingdales
Saks
Neiman
Gap
Gap Factory
J. Crew
J.
Probably have to edit out and rebuy some outerwear next.

Most of my clothing $ is going to consignment shops this year. If I am patient I will find what I am looking for. I have gotten used to low prices of gently worn pieces, and have a shock at regular retail prices. My most bought items are Chicos. I find that they hold up well over time and know my size. Changing size has reduced the size of my wardrobe but I miss colored jeans the most for the variety.

Of the 19 'new to me' pieces in my closet this year, 2 were gifted and 2 were new retail b&m buys, the remaining 15 were thrifted in Humana b&m stores. The new were fast fashion type items but surprisingly good quality; a black cotton shirtdress from Kik, and an olive midi cargo skirt from Pepco, also 100% cotton.

@ Suz - just how you described Aritzia! Lots of pastels and white. Unstructured items. Athleisure. It may just be their summer campaign, or the colab - but it wasn’t the colourful, structured, preppy garments I’m used to from JCrew!

JCrew never worked for my body, but I've pinned a lot of inspo photos from the Jenna Lyons years onto my Pinterest boards!

I have been on an AllSaints kick this year. It started when I went to the store in the winter, looking for a dress to wear to a wedding in May. I bought two, one of which I wore to a gathering the night before the wedding, and one to the wedding. It feels like AllSaints is singing my tune this season. Along with the dresses, I bought some jewelry. Then the dresses and jewelry went on sale, and the store adjusted the prices for me. I bought a sweater on sale and some jeans that weren't on sale. Then at their summer sale, I bought a blouse, two t-shirts, a belt, and another pair of jeans (in fact, same style as my previous ones, different color).

I've also bought from Madewell, and I've bought four pairs of Paige jeans--three from Evereve and one from Nordstorm.

That's amazing you find Zara at Winners! I find older Zara and Aritzia at one of my consignment stores and have occasionally picked up pieces from them there.

I didn't find the J. Crew merchandising like Aritzia, no -- but I am very sensitive to colour and J. Crew always has colour whereas Aritzia does not. Plus, J. Crew tends to feature more natural fibres (though not in every garment) and a more preppy aesthetic, overall. I find Aritzia to skew neutral, "young," and a mix of athleisure type articles and what I'd call "weekend-wear for the young" (cute skimpy dresses, etc.) and more business friendly attire (again, mostly for a young clientele). Not that it can't work for older customers -- I buy from them occasionally, after all! And J. Crew skews young, too -- but more young Eastern seaboard professional, I'd say.

What did you find similar in the presentation/ articles? I'm curious! Maybe I just didn't pay close enough attention!

Carla, this is a great question and I have enjoyed the responses. We are all so different in our approaches to shopping and purchasing -- and probably each of us is different one year to another, too! Fascinating.

My purchases this year (so far) are below. And unlike most, almost all my shopping is done online. This is no surprise. If I lived in a larger metropolitan centre, I'd be shopping more in person. But I don't find my size very often in B&M stores (and note, I am not an exceptionally unusual size) and/or I can't get the colours/ styles I want in B&M. I do like to shop B&M when I'm in a larger city and even in my own city, to get ideas.

Here are the brands, including footwear, which as usual represents, by far, the bulk of my budget.

La Canadienne website: 2 (half price sale -- 2 for 1 -- still hugely expensive but worth it for me, given how they last.

Cole Haan website: 1

Ecco website: 1 (replacement Soft 7s)

Camper website: 1

Zara website: 3 (I also bought a scarf but did not include it in my totals)

Eddie Bauer website: 1 (same shorts as you -- thank you for the tip -- got them half price!!)

Lole: 2 items, one from their website, one from The Last Hunt. (discount site)

Everlane website: 3

Boutique (in person). -- 2 items, one by Rails, and one by Alison Wonderland (local brand)

I have some undies and a top (All Saints) on order from Nordstrom's. And I will likely make some more purchases in the fall. I hope to buy any jackets at consignment.

Like Angie, I'm surprised I have no J. Crew items here -- I almost always buy from them and I have been impressed with their quality the last year or so. But I bought quite a lot last year so it may be I have reached peak J. Crew for now.

Everlane has become a go-to for essentials, for me. Surprising!

I still depend on Zara for a quick fashion fix -- what can I say? I get a fit from them that I cannot get elsewhere, a lot of the time. And for me -- it's not fast fashion. It lasts!!

While I do not keep records of how many and from where, I will say that I have been on a bit of a Mr. Toad's Wild Ride lately, filling in a lot of wardrobe holes I created by a couple years of ruthless culling. NAS was a great enabler for this.

And now that ALL my returns have been made, I await only the larger size of that blue mesh top from NAS to decide if I'll keep or return and then I settle in to consignment/thrift/resale for a while.

My sister arrives tomorrow night and we always enjoy a trip to my local consignment shop and Goodwill, time permitting.

Based on my finds:
46% of my purchase this year have come from small brands and/or small businesses. This has been a conscientious shift, that is a couple of years in the making. A couple of these items I bought at Nordies but knowing how retail works, I still felt that I was supporting small. But most either came from a small boutique or the brands own website.
18% are from Nordies
14% from the Gap/BR/Athleta
12% is pre loved -TRR, Vestiaire Collective, Poshmark, ThredUP. I would love to do more in person pre loved shopping, but in my city I don’t find much in my size. I’m also actively trying to do more of this kind of shopping, but find it difficult because it’s harder to buy sight unseen

I love your open-ended questions!! Always gets me thinking about the “why,” too. I changed jobs a year ago, and despite a hybrid work environment found that I needed more work clothes for events, speaking on panels, and conferences. M.M.LaFleur gets most of my budget for work clothes- the fit is great for me, lots of washable options, and with my new job, I simply don’t have time to “leave no retail stone unturned,” so I love using their stylists (who know every item I’ve purchased since 2016), both online and in their bricks & mortar stores. Shoes have been Fluevogs, Birks, Troentorp clogs, and ASICS- again, to keep the selection simple, with fits I know. Add a couple pieces from Elizabeth Suzann and a pair of utility pants from CoH, and that’s it.

I do almost all of my clothes shopping on TheRealReal, so they get most of my $$. I have also purchased several things from Uniqlo (specifically, from their collaborations with Christopher Lemaire and JW Anderson), including two HEWI coats that I wore a ton in the spring and can't wait to wear again this fall.

Brands I have purchased via TRR in 2024:

Virtually everything I buy is from Nordstrom, and about 90% is marked down. I like the unlimited return window so that I can dither for months and the availability of alterations and even repairs if something falls apart.

Items I’ve thrifted for the most part have been busts. It’s hard to find stuff that fits me as well.

In 2024 I have been buying most from Loft and from second hand stores. These are mostly tops, jeans, dresses. I get a lot of my jewelry from consignment stores. I look a lot at Marshalls in my town but haven't had much luck there this year. I need nothing else but if I see a thrift item I love it's likely to come home with me.

Here is collection of items I bought this year
https://youlookfab.com/finds/c.....tion=13795
Brands breakdown is:
Adidas 2
Intimissimi 4
Vero Moda 2
Princess goes Hollywood 1
Rayban 1
Roeckl 1
Michael Kors 1
Comma 2
Birkenstocks 1
Si Barcelona 1
Polo Ralph Lauren 1
Scotch and Soda 2
Mango 1
Esprit 1
Marc O’Polo 1
Diesel 1
Lancaster 1
Denham 1

Intimmisimi, Rayban, Birkenstocks, Polo Ralph Lauren, Mango and Vero Moda
are B&M purchases, everything else online.
In addition to this I also did refresh of my bras, underwear and pajamas with mostly repeats from trusted brands like Hanro, Skinny, Simone Perele and Tokyo Laundry. I didn’t collect finds for these since I don’t track this categories.

Of the non gear/active wear purchases to date in 2024 my split is as follows:

Instore boutique 7 (range of brands, local and Australian)

instore chain/mall 3

Online chain/mall store 2

Online second hand 1

online specialist 1 (shoes - podiatrist recommended brand)

discounter 1 (The Warehouse)

By chain/mall store I mean a store that I could find online or in most/many malls around, equivalent in the USA would be Banana Republic or similar.

My spend per item is probably higher than usual, but my wear is pretty good. I would like to be finding more second hand.

Like you Carla I like online for replacements. Shoes are also quite good for me online.

I prefer a boutique; for me it makes shopping a pleasurable experience. Two of the boutiques were when I was on vacation, one where I purchased four pieces was a lunch time outing when I wanted a good wardrobe update, and one is very close to my house. I also like to support local retailers. The downside is that it becomes more expensive and often the size range is more limited.

And look - no black! The turtleneck and suit are navy!! The dress does have black in the print.

Basically no-one this year! One pair Skechers near-exact replacements (found $30 cheaper than the 2019 originals, from an NZ shoe chain) and one cardigan, made from traceable merino wool, from a NZ fashion chain called Max that seems to have been working towards greater sustainability these past few years. Full price but I felt it was reasonable not over-the-top.
Overall so happy with my wardrobe.
