Yes, Suz — I can see how another pair in one of those grey-silvery tones would be so useful for you! I wore my Sofft silver sandals so much last year that I think it’s smart to actually split wears with a new pair in white/light cream or maybe even grey. I’ve gotten pretty good at adding footwear that ends up going the distance in the last couple of years — I’m more careful about comfort and I’ve kept my color palette tight. You are really good at that, so I trust that you’ll hold out for a really ideal pair of sandals. The market doesn’t seem to be really flush with the kind of thing we’re looking for, but if I see something I think may work well for you, I’ll definitely share!

I'm with Sal on the try on session. I can see mixing the light tones -- or not! I can also see adding grey. I wish those came in a lower platform. I'm still on the hunt for sandals, too, and a coming up blank. I have white Sorels, but I need more than one pair and grey or silver or pewter would be ideal.

Oh, I get it, Janet! Don't get a third one, and a racerback bra is tricky. I also understand the shifting. That happens to me when the shoulders and/or armholes are too wide for my body as I stride. Next

Angie, I wish they’d come out with that blue before I duplicated that dress in the sage green — I like the blue even more. However, I don’t think I want yet another of the same dress. It works for me as a pool/beach coverup but seems to cause me trouble otherwise. It requires a certain bra (racer backs are really, really hard to fit on me), plus I had to take up the shoulder in the green one and my bra still shows even then! It also somehow seems to shift sideways on me as I wear it, which is something I couldn’t tell in a try-on — it only happens after I’ve been wearing it for an hour or so. I don’t know why it does this on my body, but it’s really annoying. It is not so obvious in the black, but shows a lot in the green. I suspect it would be the same in the blue. I have so much weirdness with dresses! Things that seem like they should be easy-breezy don’t work in the most basic of ways, LOL!

LaPed, that sounds like a great simple outfit. I agree about mixing blacks with dark blues and browns too — something else I’m more likely to do now than in the past.

The point may be moot anyway, at least applied to the white Seychelles sandals— I got a notification that the order for those has been canceled. So if there is to be a pair of white sandals for me, it won’t be those unless another vendor has them.

ETA: turns out that Nordstrom carries the Seychelles white fisherman sandals so i placed an order with them to try. We’ll see…

Yesterday, I saw a woman with bright white sneakers and a cream jacket, plus black faux leather pants and bag. It was a great outfit , and it made me think of this post. I think mixing light neutrals — white, off white, cream, sand — has become much more acceptable and even trendy, much the way black/navy and black/brown combos have.

I agree, Lana. The more I think about it, the more I feel like these things don’t need to *match* especially since shoes and bag are far away from one another. I don’t wear white bottoms (or if I did I would just choose another pair of sandals), so no worries about those going/matching.

Now that I think about it, I have a pair of bone boots I wear with a white bag and it’s perfectly fine, so I’m changing my answer, LOL. I’m a little afraid of stark white shoes unless they can be washed and my lifestyle is not conducive to white even though it’s an ideal color for me. White is also more attention getting. How do the cream sorels look with your white bag? What about snakeskin or silver and white combo?

Thanks, everybody! This is good. You’re all confirming the various and sometimes conflicting thoughts I had in my head.

I could see either color working — as I said I’m not as inclined to be super-matchy anymore, and I agree with Jaime that sometimes less matchy = more edgy OR more relaxed and less precious, both of which appeal to me.

I’ve poked around a few online retailers and not found a lot that blows me away, particularly at a price point I’m willing to pay right now. And some platforms are just too high for my comfort zone, as much as I’d like to be 5” taller. Sorel may not be super edgy but seems to walk a very good balance between comfort and style, at a reasonable price. I’m going to keep looking, and I’ll try to have a little try-on session with pics next week when my schedule frees up.

In the meantime if anyone sees a promising style that I may have missed, along the lines of what I’ve posted here, I welcome suggestions!

I prefer the Sorel cream sandal to the graphic white sandal and also like it in the grey colourway. I love the wooden heel detail and think it would work beautifully with a tan bag.

I wear my cream boots with bright whites (the boots and dress are in Finds) and don't have a problem with the mix. I prefer the softness of cream in footwear to stark white. I do have the white wedges and wear them often, but they are softened by the patterned heel and a gold leather tassel on the top.

I think a try on session would be worthwhile. I like and have had both - and will mix them but not always. Try the cream with a few outfits and see what you think. I wore my cream footwear with black, navy, maroon - and they both wore out so that’s a good sign.

I do like the Sorel sandals though.

Yes to the pure white for you, or the grey. I'm looking at cream/ beige for me!

That said, white/whiteish sandals to me seem like they should be pretty bare as opposed to heavy and high vamp, because of the high contrast with skin. Unless wearing them with light pants or maxi skirt. I feel the same about black sandals too!

It all depends on your comfort levels, but personally I think your shoes would be far away enough from your bag/ top etc for it to work. The only possible issues I envision are with white bottoms (e.g. crisp white jeans).

That said, I agree with @Brooklyn that pure white seems more your speed than cream - that (& grey) come across as more sporty

I find optic white shoes, which I wear, are more statement, while cream or off-white, which I also wear, is more non-contrast and leg lengthening if that makes sense. I would definitely put cream and white together, but I have high tolerance for that sort of thing.

I don’t see cream as being that useful for you, unless you have lots of skirts and dresses that are in earthy shades. To me cream suits earthy colours better than white. White suits fresh colours better than cream. And you wear fresh colours more than earthy colours.

I sometimes mix shades of white and cream. It can work - but not always. It’s a bit like greys. I have had both white and cream footwear - and found both equally useful. I don’t currently have a white or cream bag.

I guess it depends on the whole picture - your other options, the exact pieces that you want to refresh. I’d pull out the skirts or tops and see what you think.

I do like the cream and grey sorels - and orange is a lovely contrast with blues, greys, white and olives.

I do like the Sorels in grey with white. Agreed that could be a good solution. I guess that’s different enough from silver?

I also like the orange! Could be a total wild card. I love orange but it’s not my most flattering color, so I keep it to accessories and in prints. I do have an orange purse though.

Janet, fun sandals :)

I like cat2's suggestion of getting the Sorels in grey instead. Bookends your salty hair! Their white sole is a better match with your true white tops and bag.

Sooooo, the cream Sorels work well with the animal print. Check your guitar straps. Do they have cream in them? Could be an easy match.

Think you need WHITE shoes to match your bag and tops IF you are going to get one pair.

I am afraid mixing white and cream still bothers me. I asked the forum about it late last year when buying my floral jacket with cream base, and although everyone said it was OK mixing that with my white cropped pants, I felt happier when I found the “milk” jeans.
Totally up to you of course.

I have a few items that are described as “milk”. So slightly off white, but not cream. I don’t think white is preferable to cream or vice versa.

I really like mixed cream/white shades. And I think I'd have an easier time wearing cream vs white footwear -- white just seems so stark! That's an individual style preference though that I realize that others on this forum don't share, to say the least. I do enjoy white footwear on others.

You're getting disparate points of view here and it sounds like you yourself are of two minds (you think it works, but aren't sure...if I'm reading you right). Seems like a situation for a good ol' try things on session -- items may appear to work (or not work) when just held up together, but the vibe may change when you actually put things on your body, you know?

I think if you got the cream you would eventually want other cream things (if you’re like me) so as much as I love those Sorel ones, I think white would better.

The cream are beautiful, just beautiful. Mixing cream and white to me sounds edgier than matching whites, so that appeals to me, especially with regard to pairing with softer summer styles.

Are you shopping specifically for white or light neutrals? Is the Joanie in “Desert Sun” too bold? I think that orange would look amazing with all your cobalt blue, and would be very complementary to the blue/white prints I associate with your summer style. I think the cream is fine, but will you reach for it over other options if it isn’t exactly what you want?
