White outerwear is signature to my style. It's not THAT practical but it's soooooooooooooo pretty.

Gorgeous, not at all lab coat, but not even remotely practical!! I had one once, before I had children and a DH

I bought a white anorak style raincoat this year, on a whim. I never considered white ANYTHING before ylf! It does pick up dirt very quickly, and then I don't feel so fab in it. I've already washed it twice (and should have washed it before I did), which doesn't sound like a lot but I generally wash coats once a SEASON, you know?

On me, I'd have to say yes. I have pets, a kid, and a messy environment (rain, mud, dirty car exterior). It would drive me nuts. But if you can handle the maintenance, go for it!

On me, the sleeves/cuffs would look terrible in seconds, the seat would no doubt pick up something while riding public transportation, and I would probably have the belt dragging out the car door on some other occasion! I would, however, consider a white or cream fuzzy wool dress coat because it wouldn't be a workhorse and I think fuzzy wool shows dirt and grime less than a smooth fabric.

I think it's a really great fresh look. It might not be practical (it will show dirt faster than a regular khaki trench), but I don't think you have to worry about the doctor look. A belt/pockets/buttons/and other details will keep it from looking like a lab coat IMHO.

Practical? No. I actually do have a white "lab coat" coat. Surprise! Had a moment there in suburbia, on my way to becoming a white hater. Anyways. It's the sleeves. Sleeves turn black and you can't ever get it out. It's a smart coat. I hang on to it hoping something will miraculously get out the black without turning it yellow.

Not too doctor-like at all. Practical, that's kinda yes and no. I loved mine and it was a fabulous way to make an outfit fresher and more interesting. I got tons of compliments on it. It did pick up marks and grunge though and showed it much more quickly than my other trenches. Even with dry cleaning, I had to let go of it much sooner than I would have liked. It just didn't look fresh. Your mileage may vary though and fabric type (mine was all cotton) could make a huge difference.

Are white trenches practical? Or are they too doctor like?
