I have an ice blue puffer and with regular dry cleaning the collar and cuffs stay pristine. Whilst it is not as practical as black, a light colour puffer can help lighten your spirits on a dark cold day. I would say a light coloured puffer is a great addition to your wardrobe. I recently bought a short puffer and was able to buy a reversible jacket - black on one side and leopard print on the other. Whilst I mainly wear the black version, it is fun to be able to swap it around for a bit of variety.

I had a cream puffer and really enjoyed having a lighter color to wear in the winter. However, it only lasted about 2 years because the cuffs and collar became dirty and it wouldn't wash out. I might consider one again but not for every day use.

I bought a white puffer from LLbean last year and I loved it. It was thin but very warm and I didn't have to do much aside from wipe down the cuffs. Mine didn't have a hood though.

I bought the white-ish Calvin Klein coat that was one of Angie's top picks a month or two ago. I came home yesterday and found that I had gotten something red on it near the pocket (I think it was a smudge of ink from a red pen) . . . I dampened a Magic eraser sponge and gently wiped it. Came right off!

I consider one every year but haven't done it because of stains and dirt. I just purchased a black parka LOL. I do love a white parka/puffer and maybe when I don't spend so much time in hockey arenas I will reconsider.

How timely, Sarah! I've been looking for a white or light gray/silver puffer myself. My dark chocolate Eddie Bauer still looks like new after several years, but I need a change. All the reviews here have sealed-the-deal for me. Off to shop!

I've not owned one--yet-- but wanted to say how striking they are. I always look twice when I see someone wearing a white coat in winter; it's a gorgeous look. If you think you can keep it white, go for it!

for 10 years i had a light silver puffer, which i replaced last year with a cream one….as Gail mentioned, the cuffs tend to get dirty, but overall i actually find lighter coats don't get any dirtier, or show dirt in winter more than dark ones…ever see a black coat after you've cleaned off the car and gotten salt/car dirt all over it?

I've had a long cream puffer for years. It has done well with a few washes each season. I really like the change a light coat brings; there are so many black puffers around!

I bought a silvery white puffer last year and it stayed amazingly clean, even with travel, slush and snow. A damp cloth removes dirt easily. Mine has a slick shiny surface. Indeed to make a Find for it, but it is Laundry by Shelli Segal from last year's NAS. The interior is deep grey.

I think you can spot clean in between washes. I have a white gear jacket for spring/summer and that's what I do. I also pretreat stains and soak in Oxy. Comes out like new. Definitely more washing than a darker color but if you are up for that, you should go for it.

I have a slightly off-white thermoball from Eddie Bauer that is now 3 years old and still looks as good as the day I bought it. I toss it in the machine every few weeks - depends on how often it gets worn. I've had nothing stain it permanently, and I'm known to spill coffee and drip things on myself in the car all the time

I have a Land's End one that I've had for several years. I don't wear it often because I'm afraid of staining (two little kids). So far, so good though. I do clean it more often than my other coats. Do you have any white jeans? Do you wash them more often than your other denim? I find my mileage translates pretty well across those categories. I get a couple of wears out of white jeans before I need to wash them, whereas I might wear medium or dark jeans five or six times before they need a wash. (Needing and getting being two different things. In practice I probably wash much more frequently.)

I had a white anorak and did not enjoy the need for frequent washing. I live in Canada so typically a puffer gets worn hard, almost daily, for 2-3 months and I don't want to plan around washing it. I am pretty messy (RATE) in general and don't really enjoy high maintenance clothing (hate ironing, dry cleaning, etc and have learned to buy accordingly), so, YMMV.
I think there's a certain amount of going with your gut - does white feel like it work for your lifestyle? It works for me better in the summer because I expect to wash those clothes with every wear due to sweat and city grime. But it turns out I dirty quickly and have no interest in frequently washing fall/winter outerwear.

Ok so we have mixed reviews. Lol So it would need washed once a month or make it most of the winter ? I'm sure it will get makup on the collar and dirty sleeves. But will grease stains or coffee wash out if I leave it for a while ? Maybe wipe it with a Clorox wipe between washes ?

I had one, but the it had a lining the rubbed off and discolor end the cuffs. That probably was an issue specific to that coat, but it was frustrating enough to put me off of white puffers in the future. Although I do have a white trench coat that manages to stay clean...

I have a short cream puffer, and have taken it out in proper dirty places (camping, farms, dirt bike riding etc). Everything comes out fine in the wash. The cuffs and collar tend to dirty up the quickest.

I had a cream one and it wasn't too hard. However I found that my pocket book strap tended to leave dirty marks on the shoulder. Also the cuffs got dirty but it all came out when I washed it. I did pre-treat and scrub prior to putting in the washing machine. I just bought a new North Face one in light silver so I am not afraid of the light color ;)
