I would also stay away from white under white. I opt for nude. Even if it doesn't match your skin color it will disappear under white. I still can't get a boyshort that won't cut in or ride up so I'm in the thong camp. I think those of us with 'low bottoms' or thick thighs are just destined to have the legs of undies cut in somehow, someway.

That's a good reason why, if I wear white bottoms, they are pretty much only substantial or heavy denim and are unlikely to reveal VPL anyway. Too much trouble otherwise!
I wear nude undies most of the time to begin with, though - my personal opinion is that white underwear & bras are just about a useless color. Under white/sheer items, they show through. Under thinner darker items (like a black tee shirt), they can act like "headlights." I'd rather have a nude or black bra, or a fun color like hot pink.

The only white pants I'm willing to risk are white denim skinnies with a flesh-toned thong.

White undies under white pants means the double layer of material looks whiter (in whatever shape your panties are) and the rest of the pants look sheerer. It's like the reverse version of being too sheer in cheek department. Does that make sense?

NEVER white panties under white pants! I am the whitest of whites and I use nude with zero visibility. As for the panty line, don't buy really tight white pants and you will be fine.

I wear nude coloured boy shorts. I was wearing white linen pants in my last WIW - they aren't 'sheer' (as in see through), but they are lighter weight than, say, white denim. I had no VPL as the pants are a loose fitting style, and you couldn't see underwear because I was wearing the nude colour.

I am in the camp of wearing only denim white pants. If your denim is not flimsy, if the pocket placement is right, and if the pants aren't too snug, you can get away with nude bikini underwear. Mostly though I prefer a tanga type thong as it hides the part you want hidden...

The other thing is that many tops are long and cover this area so keep that in mind.

Weird thing, I remember two different men telling me they like a little VPL on a "cute" girl.

You'll want to wear something nude colored; white under white shows through, just as a dark color would. Same reason you should generally wear nude bras under white tees as well.

I second Jenava's idea of white denim or something heavy enough not to show underwear. Sheer white pants are just too risky. I also use the Soma undies that Vani linked to. These come in different styles including boy shorts. I've never had any problem with VPL wearing them.

I think the problem with the boy short idea is that it's going to negate any coolness achieved by wearing the thin pants in the first place!

I say wear white denim; thick enough to not be sheer. For thinner fabrics stay away from white.

I am a "firm" believer in spanx type capri shapers. Many manufacturers offer these for a variety of prices. Donna Karan too. Make sure there aren't any seams in the shapeware on the sides or around the back--they will show through. There's also old fashioned pant slips that you trim to the right lenght. Those are still a great thing under unlined wool in the winter. Spanks keep you still if you've had a few kids. Unfortunately many white slacks are showing up unlined. Avoid the pockets for sure.

I have white jeans and just bought white denim clams recently and I find them just as cool as shorts. I guess it has to do with the white reflecting the light/sun. You should give them a try.

I like the look of white denim but I am afraid I would be in the very same position I am with blue jeans--it's hot. So that's why I am giving the white pants a try. Not sure if I will do it, but if so I will definitely try the nude boyshorts and removing the pockets. Thanks for all the advice!

Another vote for nude boy shorts ( I have actually just worn them today with pretty thin cream pants). I don't like the idea of white underwear any white pants. I strongly encourage removing the pockets : I do it on all of my white pants, even on jeans front pockets. I looks so much better that way.

Refugee, I have often wondered the same thing. I have a feeling that white boyshorts might make the sheerness even more conspicuous?

Also, people recommend getting the pockets taken out of white pants (have a tailor sew up the opening and snip out the lining) to avoid that pocket show-through. You don't have to do that with jeans, since the back pockets are sewn to the outside of the pant, but with white non-denim trousers it makes sense.

I also want to put in a vote for cotton boyshorts, since I can't imagine anything nylon being comfortable in hot weather. I like these.

Hope you don't mind if I butt in with an additional question on your thread, Sarah. With wearing a more sheer white pant would one want to wear white instead of nude boy shorts? Would this imitate the look of wearing lined pants? Therefore eliminating pocket peek through at the top of the pant?

OK, so I have never worn white pants before. As a pear-shaped chick, I always feel like they make my bottom half look too big. But Angie's post about lightening up for summer PLUS a 214-step climb to the top of a lighthouse this weekend has convinced me to give it a try (nearly fainted from the heat--was wearing jeans!). So my question is, how do you conceal VPL when wearing a pair of light cotton pants? Do you just go with the flow, wear a long shirt, or what? Thanks in advance!
