THANK YOU all for the great feedback! I guess I should've trusted my instincts; I was thinking the small was better, but seem to be having serious sizing issues this season.

Details on the jeans: They're relaxed straight leg jeans from the GAP, 100% cotton and no stretch (my wash isn't available any more, though), "1969 original fit selvage jeans", link to similar:
http://www.gap.com/browse/prod.....=311929002

Details on the tank: It's from JCrew Factory and comes in 4 colors, link: http://factory.jcrew.com/women...../50549.jsp
Also in stripe: http://factory.jcrew.com/women...../36502.jsp

Angie, thanks! I love tanks, and I know I have a good shape for them... unfortunately we have very little hot weather to wear them *sniffle* Like you I have to be very stern with myself and not buy more than I can realistically wear at the start of the season!

BJ, I do think a pear would work these jeans! I have a proportionally ample seat heh, and sized up in these to get a really relaxed fit (they're already relaxed to begin with). Info about the jeans up above!

Annaj, no worries the smaller size is loose enough to semi-tuck

I can't see a lot of difference, but given that you plan to alter it anyway due to the armhole gape, I'm going to go against the flow and get the bigger size. I think it gives you more options given that current fashion tends towards a loose fit. You can do a semi-tuck with a looser fit, that won't work as well with a tight fit.

It's a lovely tank, so as long as you buy one...!!

They look so similar to me, but I would go with the one with the better armhole fit. I don't think you need to alter the smaller size. It looks fine to me and you can't see any bra action.

I think the smaller size. Trying to change the armhole too much on the larger sounds like a recipe for trouble and why... when the smaller size is so fab already? It is a much smaller alteration and thus more likely to be invisible upon completion.

I think the smaller size definitely looks better. It provides some shape while still maintaining a comfortable amount of room. And I don't see the gaping at the arm as being an issue in the smaller size, TBH. I love the top, though, and it looks great on you!

If you wanted a "trendier" look, you could always pair this tank with trendier pieces (those BF jeans, for example). Since you've waited this long for the perfect sequined tank, I see no problem with going for a more classic fit so that you can wear it more often!

AJ, good point. They both have that gape, so either way I need to get the shoulder altered to take it up. It just gapes more on the bigger one Movement-wise, they actually both feel good. The smaller size feels "comfortably loose" and the bigger size feels "breezy", if that makes sense.
