I cut out all my neckline tags and constantly face this problem. Sometimes I go by the direction the side tag is sewn, believing that they are sewn to lie naturally towards/against the back of a garment, not the front. With a spaghetti strap top it should be obvious which is the front and back. Fabric tag is in the side seam.
