your daughter is adorable in your boots! LOL.

my initial instincts say the short boots... for that shiny-cool mod look.

Thanks so much for the link about the boot fit, Isis. I was so worried about foot fit, I totally had no idea about the importance of calf fit! However, at this point, I am leaning towards keeping the 7.5 knee high boots if I do keep any of them, because I just don't like the ankle boot look. My heart goes pitter pat whenever I see the Vavooms--I love love love the color and I can't find anything else similar anywhere. And even though the short ones look like they fit better on my leg from the front in the pictures I posted, they are actually quite loose in the back of the ankle too. I think I will get a lot more options for wear with the longer boot and maybe since they're waterproof "rain boots" and I would mostly wear them with jeans, I can get away with them not fitting super snug?

However, now that you've posted that link, I'm worried about the chocolate brown Via Spiga Kacey riding boots I just bought at the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. They are even looser at the top than the Aquatalia ones. Looks like they are listed at 14.5 inch circumference. I haven't had a chance to measure my calf properly (need to find a measuring tape) but rough guesstimate from transferring hand measurements onto a piece of paper is about 13-13.5 inches. (The Aquatalia are listed at 13.75 inches circumference). Should I return them? Can I even return them at this point? I already wore them a couple times unfortunately, waaahh I really like the look/style of the boots, but should I be looking for something slimmer?
Here is the boot:
http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/vi.....ot/3172666
Here's some pictures of me wearing the boot:
I am wearing it in a 7.5 and it is loose enough to wear socks underneath.

I LOVE the boots, but I think even the 7.5's are too gappy in the calf. I was just researching this on the site as I am thinking about boots, and Angie has said no more than 1/4 inch gap at the calf.

http://youlookfab.com/2008/10/.....-the-calf/

The short ones are quite nice, but if they aren't making your heart beat faster, keep looking!

I've had a look at the new piccie but I think this particular boot is just too tall for you, can you see the gap at the top? That usually means that they are too tall more so than too big

I think you're right that the Vavooms are too baggy/galoshy on me. I normally wear size 7-7.5 in shoes and both of those in the pictures are size 8, because it said to size up. (I am wearing them with thin socks on.)

However, I had ordered the Vavooms in 7.5 and 8 and I just tried on the 7.5 this morning. It fits a lot slimmer throughout the calf and it's snugger in the foot, but I don't think it's too tight. So I think the smaller Vavooms might actually be the right size for me as long as my feet don't swell up too much...I'm going to wear them around the house and see. Now that I'm wearing the 7.5s, the Noelle 8s are feeling a little loose to me too. I'll try to add some pics to the album wearing the 7.5 Vavooms.

ETA: Ok, new pics in 7.5 added to the album in the original post. Does that change your opinion?

I prefer the look and fit of the short ones! I actually like them with the dress, but it's certainly a bold look! I think they would look awesome with skinnies, leans, or leggings tucked into them, or with tights and skirts/dresses, or under bootcut pants. The long ones seem too tall and wide for your legs, whereas the short ones fit your calves really well.

Hm, I'm with Louise... if you want a versatile boot, neither of these seem to be it. The tall ones only work with jeans tucked in, and the short ones only work with dresses, IMO.

Your DD is adorable in her boots! :DDD

I'm actually feeling the short boots more somehow. I'm picturing them with skinnies and thinking they'll rock each other. The have an edginess without being jarring; they're sleek too.

My feeling is the longer ones swallow you up. I love the idea of them, the square toe and Courrege-boot feel. But actually on you, the ankle boots convey this vibe more successfully.

I totally see the ankle boots with a dress or skirt too. Maybe play around with different fullnesses. You could have tall socks pushed down over the top, or have nothing and let the small gap at the top of the boot highlight your calf's shapeliness. The gap on the tall boot doesn't do that.

I'm surprised because I thought I'd prefer the tall ones.

Also note the tall boot has a flatter heel. Overall I like the shorter one with your proportions and I think you could surprise yourself when you try it on with the rest of your wardrobe. (Disclosure: this year I got a pair of ankle boots and was surprised by their awesomeness - I'd avoided them for so long!)

I prefer the tall ones too but i think they are too wide in the calf on the bare legs. They look very sleek and IMO require to fit snugly in the calf. They may be fine with tucked in skinnies though...

I prefer the taller style. I have a pair of boots that are that dark cherry red color in a similar material and wore them a lot. I liked them so much that I got them in black the next year. The red is great with skinny pants tucked in but I wore them with skirts and dresses that were grey or black as well. You wouldn't think it, but they really were versatile and I got a lot of positive comments on them.

I prefer the tall boots, the vavoom. They are more stylish to me. I like the zippers and the square-ish toe. I think they are more versatile as well.

The short boots, to my eye, are only wearable with bootcut or straight leg pants. I just don't like the way short boots look with either dresses or skinny jeans (that may be a bit of a personal bias).

The Vavooms are chic with so many types of clothing -- with a dress, with leggings, with skinny jeans (tucked in). Or you could wear them under some bootcut or all wide leg pants.

I feel they will last some seasons as well. In these boots you will be the girl with those cool red boots. Why can't you wear them to work? I don't think they are that "out there."

PS -- Your DD loves the tall boots as well!

OK guys, help me pick which shiny red Aquatalia boots to keep! I initially bought the ankle length Noelle boots, but I wasn't sure the ankle length boots were working for me because they look funny with knee length skirts and I wasn't sure I could wear them with anything I own except by wearing pants over the boots. So I ordered knee length Vavoom boots. But now that the Vavooms are here, I'm not sure that they're any more wearable than the Noelle. All those zippers and knee high shiny boots make me feel like I need a leather catsuit and a whip to wear the Vavooms! Seriously, I can't wear these to work, can I?

DH certainly liked the long ones , although he thinks the shorter boots are more "practical". Which one do you think I should keep--the ankle length, the knee length, or return them both? Practical me says I shouldn't waste money on boots I can't wear to work, but secret fashionista me wants a pair of shiny red boots! (Oh, I should also mention that the long boots are more than twice as expensive as the short ones--$140 vs $345, if that makes any difference). But I don't mind paying extra if I'll get more use out of the more expensive pair. Also, if you have any suggestions on what to wear with either of these boots, I would appreciate it!
