Very wise inputs, ladies. Sharan, I think you're right. Heeled boots don't replace flats. I think I'll keep both since they're both in good condition and I don't want to purge too soon and then have to buy the same thing again.

Thank you again, everyone. Your collective wisdom always always makes so much sense!

I agree, I like the looks of the tall ones. And I don't see heeled boots as a duplication of flat ones.
You may find yourself wanting the mid-calf option sometimes, too, once boot weather arrives.

I like the first ones too as they seem to fit you better and to my eyes the higher shaft is more flattering, but to echo everyone - wait it out (from a fellow purged, I know how hard this can be!)

Good idea to figure out where you want your style direction to go this winter before making decisions!
You'll need to know what's in stores for fall to decide, I think.

Thank you ladies. I agree... It is too early to make any decisions.

I'm not very concerned about looking dated, honestly. I wear classic styles with ease, coz they go well with the rest of my wardrobe. However, I do already have the same length tall flat black boots....I also have two pairs of calf length black boots that are flats. I think this may be a problem of plenty!

Fact is that I don't end up wearing heels very often, so I thought just one pair should be enough. But then, I have no idea how my winter style will shape up this year. So I think I'll do a post with all the black boots I have once it's time to wear them, and then ask for your advice on which ones to let go. After all, there are only so many days in our winter (lasts no more than 4 months) and I can't possibly do justice to so many pairs of black boots.

Thanks for your inputs again, ladies!

I'm no help because I think both look useful unless you have identified other styles you know you want and so find "making room" helpful in making that shift.
The second pair might work well with the trending "taller low boot".
I'm struggling with my feelings about wedges also so if I were buying new, I'd get flat or stacked heel, but these might be placeholders for styling, plus wedges are often so comfortable.

I hear you on getting ahead of oneself on wardrobe editing when season is not yet here. I've been trying to find time to do more "tidying" and of course one recommended approach is to go through entire wardrobe, and I've done that before. Plus, it's hard to do NAS without a good review of F/W wardrobe. And, despite temps still hitting 90's, I can feel that touch of fall in the light now. But I am learning that I'll probably make better decisions closer to the season when it feels better to try on sweaters and tights and such.

I do like the taller ones better, for the same reason Astrid mentioned. Just a little more streamlined.
We are all so conscious of being dated! I don't think they look dated. Just a classic boot.

I would hold on until the time you actually have to wear them. As you say the summer clothing and light sometimes doesn't let us see things in context. Fwiw I would keep both because they are sufficiently different.

I think waiting to make the decision is smart. You've talked about wearing all day as part of your test for purging/keeping, and waiting would allow you to do that. I think the second pair might be more on-trend (the shaft height, plus the wedge heel?) but I like streamlined, too. In any case, wait until the weather cools off to decide.

Good idea to wait then. I think purging out of season is never a good idea. When it's warm I just can't imagine wanting to wear some winter things and vice versa...

That sounds like a good plan, Astrid! I'll donate one in any case.....but I can wait to make that decision when winter arrives. All the 'boots' talk on YLF got me excited to make some decisions about mine But honestly, I won't be wearing any until December...

Thanks Astrid. I think I didn't wear them for the exact same reason you mentioned. I like things streamlined too. I like a crisp look that's classic feminine....the wedge heeled boots 'felt' too chunky. And I was into wearing only tall boots last winter.....I didn't wear any calf length ones - not even flats. I don't know how I'll feel this winter though.....

I have too many pairs of black boots for winter. I mostly wear flat boots...and I have 3 pairs for that. But I also have two pairs with heel...and I would ideally like to keep only one. I do want to add one pair of heeled ankle length booties this year, so don't need both these boots.

I can't decide which of these should go. I don't love either very much....but will keep 1.

I think #1-2 have a very dated look. I already have flat black knee length boots I prefer to wear more often.

#3-4 have a wedge heel but are calf length. I've had these boots all of last year but just not worn them. However, I think I like them just a smidge more....though I'm not sure. #5 is a full length photo.

Which boots look less ridiculous? Do my proportions look better in one as opposed to the other?

I understand it's hard to imagine them in an outfit when I'm wearing summer clothes. That's probably the reason I can't choose which are less hideous either! But I wore the tights just to give a general idea.....I'll wear both boots in a similar fashion ---pulled over ponte leggings/pants and skinny jeans.

I apologize in advance for the horrid photos and messy room. I was pulling the boots out of the under-the-bed storage and didn't have any natural light today to make the photos clear. I hope you can make out 'something'.
