PS- I love the velvet "ecole" blazer at JCrew at the moment and they are starting to put various colors on sale.

Try J Crew and H&M. I find BR and H&M to be less full in the bust area than J Crew. I remember you posting on long arms and these will rpobably work on that dimension as well.

I find NL at my local Bloomie's:

http://tinyurl.com/3nbhrx

Looks like Nieman Marcus and Bergdorf's also carry them (just do a search in google). Possibly elsewhere. And online.

I'm sorry my memory is so horrid - are you petite? I can't remember. If you're not, you might also try Elie Tahari brand. And BCBG. And Theory, if you are looking for a classic, basic piece. I am hit or miss with those brands - but it's not the style - it's because I'm only 5'0" which limits my options.

Another brand you might give a whirl is Ralph Lauren. I shop that brand at my local Macy's, which has a good RL petite section.

I would try on in person (vs ordering online) before deciding whether these brands work for you. And bear in mind that if you are NOT petite - your options are much more wide open than mine... so there are probably many other designers that could click for you. Like Michael Kors... I love his stuff, but even in petites, they don't fit me at all - the smallest size is way too big.

Yes Shiny it was the green Loft one that Angie blogged about. Next time I will size down and see.

Where do you usually buy your Nanette Lepore jackets? I do not mind spending $$ for one if it is FAB.

I will look at Ann Taylor and BR next time I am around those stores.

Which AT cord blazer? Do you mean ATL (the Loft)? Is there a photo online you could show us, so we can see the style?

And where was the fit issue? Shoulders, waist, all over? Did you try going down a size?

I went shopping yesterday and I had good luck at BR. The jacket isn't online anymore, but it was not a style I'd normally expect to work for my hourglass shape... and yet, it worked great.

I hit Ann Taylor but this time just to pick up some elbow-length gloves. I did have luck there a week or so ago. I deliberately came back for the gloves, because last year I waited too long and then couldn't find any in my size. Otherwise, I'm holding off until I can use my coupons in October.

I also hit Ann Taylor Loft (with coupons in hand) but was sorely disappointed. Found nothing at all. I don't like the colors they are coming out with this season - they don't work for me. There was one silk green blouse that was lovely - but not available in petites.

I hit JCrew but nothing interested me there this time around. I'm often hit or miss there - but mostly that's because I'm a petite. Jcrew is worth a look.

And I hit Anthropologie. I think Angie doesn't like that place .... but I find that Anthropologie often is a good place to scope out jackets and cardis that really play up the waist. Usually more funky/casual/fun ... with bells and whistles ... not necessarily what I'd wear to work. More what I'd wear on a weekend.

I don't know your price range, but I'm finding Nanette Lapore jackets are perfect for hourglass shapes. Her designs really focus on the waist. But they are expensive. And some are a bit too-frou-frou. So you have to be selective.

I tried the Ann TAylor loft green cord blazer and it was not fitted enough for me and the Express one I adored but the sleeves were not long enough.

Anyone have favorites at JCREW or other places?

Fitted, good with dark denim straight jeans, smart casual?
