3/4 sleeve crew neck is what most of mine are (I don't have many though). I can wear over a cami or a button down shirt. Very versatile. I have basic colors and need to get a couple more with some fun colors so I can mix things up more!

Winter: V-necks in full-length sleeves, preferably merino wool

Spring/summer: cotton V necks in shorter sleeves (short, elbow, 3/4) in cropped or longer... cropped length looks best with skirts, dressses and with fuller, longer tops worn over clams (For my figure, at least)

I have crew necks too but I definitely wear the v-necks more often. I also have some scoop neck cardis that are quite fun.

Actually, I would probably focus more on COLOR.... I need a black for winter, and a white for spring/summer. These seem to need to be replaced because the color washes out of the black, and the white gets dirty. Then I need seasonal accent cardis too...

I agree with Elika. I prefer v-necks with 3/4 sleeves. For me at least, they seem to layer better over button downs and cowl neck tops than crew necks do.

V-necks are by far the most useful to me, at any sleeve length. In the winter I wear the full sleeves, but as summer approaches I'm ready for a couple more short sleeved versions.

I'm with Christine, but it also depends on your personal style and (very important) your body. I think high necklines are more suited for slim arms or smaller bust, and v-necks are the best for a curvier upper body (which explain why I love v-necks and dislike crewnecks

My fave is what you said - v neck 3/4 sleeve. Most versatile by far.

Personally I have not found the boyfriend style as versatile; I wore it a few times but not nearly as often as I thought I would. I'm happier with regular length cardis. But that's of course a matter of both personal preference and what looks best on you.

I have different style cardis (crew neck, v-neck, short sleeve, long sleeve, 3/4 sleeve) and the ones I wear most often are the short sleeved crew neck ones, because I wear them over long-sleeved tops in the fall/winter and over tanks in the summer. But I also wear my other ones plenty of times, especially the crew neck ones, at whatever sleeve length.

This shape in long or 3/4 sleeve are my favorites. I see they're marked down to $24.50 now, which is super tempting.

The type of cardi I've reached for most often this winter is the v-neck boyfriend cardi. In fact, for the last two cold days recovering from flu, I've layered cardi over shorter cardi for warmth. I can wear them with lower buttons done up as a tunic over skinny tight pants. I can belt over them or under them. They are a great layer over tees, cowl necks, buttondown shirts or dresses, even my sweater dress.
I have versions in black, brown, and dark purple. The dark purple gets the most use and the black the least...the opposite of what I expected.

I need to stock up on some cute colorful cardigans and wondered which cut would be the most versatile.

v-neck with 3/4 sleeves looks like it can be used in many ways---and v-neck with short sleeves too.

what are your favs?
