My reasoning is, I dislike wearing mismatched blacks together, and dislike wearing brights with black as it seems to make them brighter. The teal is very dark and subtle IRL, and it's a colour I can pair with brighter colours, earthier colours (looks great with olive!), or with black.&nbsp;</p> <p>Anyway, they're super running pants if anyone else is looking for some very lightweight, high-rise, loose-but-not-sloppy activewear bottoms -- with zip pockets! I'm going to wear them for a season and may end up duplicating. I did specifically choose shorts last summer to have large pockets for phone, small water bottle, asthma puffer. Now in late autumn here I am annoyed most of my long pants have no pockets. My newish walking sneakers are cobalt and I am a bit upset they don’t go with more of my clothes. In relation to tops and gear jackets, I wait to find what I like and that is where I inject colour. For shoes, I get professionally fit at a running centre, so whatever works best on my feet is what I buy. I have some Nike shoes that are my fashion sneakers that are great for walking and wearing with my normal clothes. On its own its definitely quieter. I think the dark teal would look great with the colours I already have, and it might even help tie in some of the brighter pieces and make them feel more intentional. The main appeal with black is that it's safe and will look "just fine" with anything I add in the future. The dark teal is a beautiful colour in its own right, but will it feel like too much when I'm actually wearing it? Would colour make them more or less useful as a gear-casual crossover piece? I just don't know! May have to order them and try, or may live with the black and forget all about it. I usually opt for a black bottom especially for outdoor gear. Navy would also work but I’ve built my capsule around black. I’d like to not buy more tights if I can help it, but loose options are limited and have their own set of fit challenges...</p> <p>Anyway, I tried on these Athleta pants and they are pretty much perfect — lightweight, high waist, no bulky drawstring, not too tight at calf or ankle, zip pockets that don’t bulge or grin. But I’m totally stuck on which color to add! They come in black and dark teal. I know from past experience that I get bored easily with solid black bottoms, especially in synthetic fabrics, but I also don’t feel very excited about jewel tones, which are annoyingly ubiquitous in women’s gear. If these pants came in olive or asphalt, or even navy, the choice would be easier. </p> <p>Either the black or the dark teal would slot easily into my existing “gear palette” such as it is (photo #1 is outerwear, #2 is tops, and #3 is my other bottoms for comparison). Current gear shoes are all some mix of grey, black, and burgundy. At the end of the day, it won’t really matter what colour these pants are as long as they’re comfortable and do what I want them to do. But boy do I ever wish they came in olive! </p> <p>So I’m curious what the collective wisdom is here. When it comes to gear, do you stick to basic, boring black because it’s always available and goes with everything? Do you wait for the perfect color to come along, or do you settle for colors that aren’t your favorite because other features matter more? </p>
