Yes, I really liked the first boots but the auction price for a slightly damaged pair went up almost as much as the retail price for a new pair, and they are still available in the store. Maybe I'll keep them in mind as a finishing-my-PhD present. I love Sorrels too but they are a bit too spendy for me at the moment, plus I'm not sure where to get them in the UK. Somebody probably carries them but I haven't really looked into it yet.

I'm not too sure what the wellies are like, so I'm going to see if I can find a pair in the store to inspect while I'm out and about tomorrow. I'm under the impression that they might be more like a regular boot inside, rather than a typical wellie, but there isn't that much info on the website. They are pretty inexpensive though so I might just get them anyway if they look ok in person. My existing wellies are a size too big, pink and purple striped, and slightly faded on one side from the sun.

Grey boots option B are still available but the more I look at them the more I think they might be too big around the leg. After all my hemming and hawing I think I'm leaning toward the black cowboy boots. Hopefully they don't look too costume-y in person.

I have boots just like those black wellies and use them for snow. Are these actually like wellies with no lining or do they have some interior cushion/warmth? Mine zip up and the quilted part is kind of insulated and the foot bed has structure unlike plain old wellies.

Oh, and I second the no-Wellies-in-real-snow.

For winter boots, how about Sorels? They are super-cute nowadays.

I love the first ones, of course. What is the status of the third ones? They are really nice too! Do you own them or are they in the running?

I've looked at those cowboy rainboots before - SO much fun! - but ended up with some lace-front Hunters which I found at a bargain price - they are much more versatile in terms of wearing them.

Or, if I need wellies, how about these?!?! They are AMAZING. So not my actual style but they are way cool!

I'll ponder the wellies in the snow thing. I was thinking that the nice tread on them and the waterproof aspects would be good. Maybe I'll keep looking for some snow boots as well.

I love the boots in your recent post - they are a great colour and style. I think you would find them quite versatile even with a skirt and tights.
The wellies are are very sharp too, but I'd have to defer to other posters regarding their suitabilty for winter weather. They look more like something for the rain.

Can I offer a word of caution against wellies as snow boots I'm in the UK too (west midlands) and last year in all that snow my feet froze in my Hunters even with thick hiking socks and wellie socks. I promptly ordered some doc martens which were a godsend and my feet stayed snug and warm for the rest of the winter x

ETA love the boots in the post above this x

Hmm, I'm still not decided. I re-checked the measurement and it seems like the tall ones might actually be too big. The circumference is 2" bigger than my leg.

I think I'll go have a look at the wellies in person tomorrow, if they are actually carried in store. Normally I don't really like the quilted look but I like how these are not totally shiny plastic.

And I also discovered that I have a £20 off voucher I can use on yet a different pair of boots... cowboy style, actual leather, not too high, and can be returned if I don't like them. What do you think?

Depending, of course, on how they actually fit - my vote is for #2. They're a lot dressier and yet could still style them kinda RATE.

The wellies are pretty fancy!

Yes, my calves are a bit larger than average so most off-the-shelf boots don't fit me. The seller measured them for me, though, and this pair would be plenty big. Even big enough to tuck jeans into, should I decide to try that look.

At the moment I'm not working, but I'm trying to buy things with an eye toward looking for a job once the final bits of my PhD are finished. Given the economy and academic hiring cycles I'll probably wind up temping for a while, and since the workplace norms can be a bit unpredictable I'd usually dress fairly conservatively.

I like #1, but maybe not for work, and I wouldn't recommend getting them at the expense of your budget. The wellies are awesome.

I like boot#1 but I agree that if your workplace is not a jeans-wearing workplace, you might not be able to wear it to work.

I'm concerned that boot #2 is so wide in the shaft that it might be very baggy around the ankle. Do you usually need a boot with wide calves?

Love #3. These are my favorite of the three pairs and will be a very stylish pair of wellingtons.

I'm thinking about getting one or the other of these pairs of boots. Boot A is definitely leather and very cool, but I'm a bit concerned that their RATE style isn't very versatile in a work situation, and they are expensive (for me). It's also possible that they won't fit my legs, although I think they would hit low enough on the leg that it shouldn't be a problem. Boot B may not be actual leather, but the style is more sleek and they will definitely fit my calves. They are about 1/3 of the price of the other boots and within my price range.

I've been wanting to get a second pair of boots to wear this winter. Last year I wore my slouchy black ones constantly, and while I still love them I'd like to expand my looks a bit this year. I'm also thinking about getting this pair of wellies to wear as snow boots, since they are a little bit atypical for wellies.
