Thanks for helping me think this through! I think I've been too focused on making my footwear the statement of every outfit. I think the black matte leather will be the most versatile in my wardrobe. Sometimes simple is better. :o)

I actually have the Stella in a former style and I love it. It is a bit short which works for me. I like the patent with the outside zipper but as others have stated, you do need to be willing to pair down other elements. i also do not think patent holds up as well as leather.

I love the third and fourth pair. If you have the right personality and sass, you can definitely carry the croc!

Since all the shapes are classic, I think it's a question of how much visual interest you want in a boot. The croco has the most; the plain black leather, the least; the patent, in between. How well will the different textures complement your skirts and dresses? If you're not sure, you could order more than one and experiment with the looks.

I fell for a pair of boots last year with bright color and visual interest (red patent) and as much fun as they are to wear, they require careful coordination with outfit and coat, and they are not for a day when I'm feeling faint of heart. So a bit of it is how much you want to be "out there" every day with your boots, as well as the way they work in your wardrobe.

I have a long slender calf as well and a 13-14' shaft is a little higher than a mid-calf boot. It's not a bad length for skirts, especially if it fits the calf really well, but if warmth is an issue, you may want something in the 15" range!

I love the matte ones too. Very classic. Not a poor answer Julie, your opinion is very helpful. You also have a great eye for style! :o)

As much as i love all the textured ones i think plain simple matte black would fill the gap best x

I really like the matt leather boots, I'm really not sure why. Sorry for the poor answer.

I went against an Angie suggestion, and now I regret it. She suggested I begin with black boots, because they are the most versatile. That's when I saw the burgundy boots...and I'm a sucker for color. I love them, but have a gap in my wardrobe where black boots should be. I've been checking out the LC's on Zappos...they fit the chicken legs. Which would be the best choice to wear with skirts and dresses?

Love this simple style, but they don't have them in my size (8.5). Am I right in thinking that black patent is a little more exciting that plain black leather? Or am I just attracted to shiny objects? :o)
http://www.zappos.com/la-canad.....kle-patent

I feel like the zipper on the outside makes these a little edgy. I'm not a particularly edgy person, but they're gorgeous boots! Maybe I need some edge...
http://www.zappos.com/la-canad.....kle-patent

A lovely classic black leather boot:
http://www.zappos.com/la-canad.....ck-leather

Same boot in black croco patent...gorgeous, but they scare me a little bit...too much texture?
http://www.zappos.com/la-canad.....lack-croco

*At least I have learned a valuable lesson! :o)

Ooh! Shaft height...from the floor to the bottom of my knee cap is about 16.5 - 17 inches. Will some of these be too short?
