Honestly I had to zoom in on them to really see the difference ... they are the same tool in outfit creation. Good job on going for greater comfort. The less comfortable pair would have become orphans.

Go with comfort, especially for family outings and walking in ice and slush. I am glad that you are keeping that pair. Maybe you can keep looking for something with both glam and comfort as a fresher later in the season.

Thanks everyone! I needed that extra push to choose comfort over glam. I wore them around the house this morning (with my shorts and tank top lol) and the plain pair are really comfortable ... so they're keepers!!

Also, I just remembered when I put cognac lace-up booties on my shopping list last winter it was with the intention to wear them on icy roads and in the slush... These will definitely make me feel secure under those conditions, however far away they may seem right now. So yes, wise Shevia, there is definitely emotional comfort in this too. The plainer booties make me feel like someone who has their sh*t together and won't easily be thrown off balance (literally and figuratively).

To be clear, I also really like their style in its subtlety. Kind of like Timberlands but a tad sleeker. Another nineties throwback!

So thanks FashIntern for looking into alternatives, but none of those pairs, though gorgeous, tickles me more than these do (for the stated purpose). That's also saying something right?

I think the question is whether the comfort is all physical or perhaps also emotional. Because the plain ones look good and there is nothing wrong with preferring a less statement pair, which still looks good and stylish. Otherwise, order the larger size of the other ones and then decide.

They read almost identical! I too slightly prefer the look of the snakeskin, but as others have noted, you won’t even be able to see the snakeskin print at any distance, and they are so similar that it seems clear that comfort should triumph as you make your choice.

Great boots!

Comfort is key as long as you also
like how they look! By that I mean only, I have tried in some footwear tgst felt marvelous but I could not stand how my feet or ankles looked- something about the shape and proportion. So I knew I just would not wear them.

OTOH if the style is good looking on your feet, and the right color for your palette, and you just had been hoping to find something a little more jazzy, or different, you are likely to do well with the plainer ones, and make other outfit embellishments.
If you are determined to have something more special, and not duplicate, you would need to try another size at least, AND not buy even those if they are not fully comfortable, but just keep looking. For what could really be a HEWI.

I won’t say I’ve never had a slightly uncomfortable shoe, haha, but it would need to be for some specific event- reason - wedding party, gala, - and even so, now I’m thinking I would not make new purchasers. Certainly would not settle for daily- wear type shoes and laceup boots! These are the very items where we can get great foot comfort in the right amount of style for how it is expected to look.

It is really important to choose shoes or boots that are comfortable. Of these two pairs, only one is comfortable. They also sound more practical (sturdy and warmer). They will get more wear and you won’t regret the choice. I think they look great with your work pants!

I'm grappling with my intention to buy more interesting footwear when in this case I do also really like the plainer style and yes (Janet, Sarah) they are THAT much morecomfortable.
FashIntern, good point about things organically fitting in.
Nemosmom, hard to imagine winter time now but I do get cold feet easily.
I'll try them on again tomorrow after a good nights sleep!

Personally, I like the snake skin ones, but I’m not the one who has to live with your choice. It sounds clear to me that you prefer the others, so that’s what you should go with.

If you go with the less-comfortable ones that your spreadsheet says to pick, then you’ll not only be slightly less comfortable—you’ll have to do the math every time you think about them. Much better to get the ones that organically appeal to you, because they are much more likely to organically fit in your evolving wardrobe.

But thinking about the “math”, I think the plainer ones might be the better choice anyway. They are an easy resting spot for the eye, when you are jazzing up colors and shapes in the rest of your outfits.

I expected a radical difference between the two from your description but I'm with the others who find them quite similar. Lots of items we look at in closeup aren't usually seen or noticed in the same way by others. If you think about false plain fabric, in the hand at reading distance, you can enjoy the pattern but from across a room or down the block, they blend to a plain shade. Like that with the boot pairs. The smaller is a tad more refined in shape - possibly accounting for the too constricted feel - but how noticeable from down the block and worn with similar relaxed clothing?

Based on looks alone, I like the snake textured ones better -- a little more refined, a little more personality. However, comfort is queen, for the use you're talking about. Do you think you should try the larger size for a more realistic comparison? Or is the comfort of the plainer ones so superior that you don't even need to try another size in the others?

I agree they look very similar on your feet, comfort is the most important factor.

To my eye they are quite similar so I would prioritise comfort and quality.

My order of fall booties arrived. I tried them on with the trousers I’ll most often wear them with (did not change my top; it’s super hot today). I was biased towards the textured booties because they’re quite special, not just the texture but the shaft height too. Now that I’ve tried them on, I’m actually leaning towards the ‘plain’ hiking style booties. What makes the comparison difficult, is that the snake booties are a bit too small and I should really try a size up. Which may still not work because the toe box is also more narrow than the other style. The same size plain booties fit perfectly.

I intend to wear these booties mainly in a casual way, going on walks and family outings. Since Covid I’m trying for more overlap between casual and office wear, in which case the snake booties obviously win. But to be honest I have plenty of options in good shape to wear to the office so it wouldn’t hurt to have a strictly casual pair.

Btw the plain booties feel sturdier in the quality of the leather and finish, have a more comfortable footbed and a warmer lining. Am I crazy leaning towards these? What do you think?
