Gigi, I'd call it middle of the road - not high end but not Payless cheap either. I ordered a pair of New Look sandals in an earlier order from them (they went back, the style didn't quite work for me) and they were a bit less well made, but then they were cheaper too. Asos's house brand seems to be pretty well made for the price in general, akin to Target in my experience. Of course they also carry a lot of other brands in a lot of price points so those probably vary.

Update: these have arrived and both are going back. I ordered my usual size but it's just a little small in both. The slingbacks are the closer to working but neither would be particularly comfortable over time. I'd need a half size up but of course they don't offer that. I liked the look of the slingbacks more than the ankle strap heels, but then, I'm still adjusting my eye to the sides of feet hanging out on all these d'orsay heels.

If you wear pants or long skirts when you dress up, go with the ankle strap definitely. They always get caught between heel and shoe...

Laura, I'm sure you won't regret trying them both in person. I've had good experiences with ASOS returns. I like both pair but for some reason I have had trouble finding ankle strap shoes that work with my foot. I am a size 9 but have a narrower heel and the back part ends up looking sloppy and bunchy or else is uncomfortably stiff. Weird and sad because I really would like to join in this trend. Hopefully that will not be a problem for you and you'll get to pick which you like best!

Laura I wouldn't wear the slingbacks in winter, but I WOULD wear the other pair in winter; because the heel and toe are both covered, it will work well with hosiery.

Ok, you enablers I've ordered them both, since Asos has free shipping and returns. Hopefully one of them will work.

I already have a pair of classic black pumps (and a pair of dressier flats) that are more versatile, so I'm thinking of these as an evening/occasion shoe only. Which might suggest that the ankle strap is more all-season than the sling back, because you don't wear sling backs in the winter, do you? Although maybe you don't wear d'orsay pumps in the winter either...

If they offer free returns, I'd try both and go with which are more comfortable. They are both cute. I'm slightly biased to the ones with the strap since I have Okalas like that and they are comfortable. Go with whichever you think you'll wear more. For me, that's the comfortable ones!

I prefer the ankle strap. It looks more current, but just as dressy. If these are comfy like the okala's then I think you'll get a lot of use out of them. IMHO, I find sling backs to be uncomfortable. They hurt the back of my heel after a few hours no matter how comfortable they started out.

How often do you refresh your dressy black heels, and how often are they worn? I think it's great to have a current looking pair and a more classic pair, if space/budget allows. If I had to pick one, I'd go with the ankle strap pair myself because I have a hunch they'll get worn more.

Years ago I still would have picked the ankle strap one for the retro flair. I also like that it has a covered heel, which makes putting a heel grip in easier if needed and covers the heel back with bare feet, and the heel itself looks slightly more stable.

I think they are both pretty shoes though.

Right, I think it depends on how long you want to wear them, what your budget is and how trend-conscious you are. The left ones are a forever shoe, to my eye, while the right ones are on trend and fab in a different way.

Your body type and what you plan to wear them with might also play parts in your decision. I think the ankle strap can shorten a leg and emphasize a short-ish skirt and make it look even shorter.

Both lovely! I'm no help at all, am I??

I'm thinking of ordering one of these pairs of heels from the Asos sale to refresh my 'black, dressy, going out heel' option. Which one do you think is better? The ankle-strap is very reminiscent of the Sole Society and Okalas that everyone's buying, but the slingback is nice as well and maybe not as trend-driven?
