I live in New England and it's pretty cold here in winter, plus this is not a super warm coat. The second coat could be buttoned up into a "closed" position where the notched collar coat&nbsp;doesn't close completely so a scarf is necessary to fill the gap.&nbsp;I would wear a scarf with either one&nbsp; because the wool of a coat is usually a little rough so a scarf puts a soft layer between it and my neck, and&nbsp;my neck is always cold in winter&nbsp;so a scarf gives more warmth than a crewneck sweater would give, especially if I'm not wearing a hat.
