I'm super late to the thread but I love the dress on you and am glad you kept it.

I think the Kamalikulture will be work-wearable for sure. I even wore my similar (same pattern but sleeveless) dress to a work evening event once. It is body con, but I was working in the fitness business, so didn't mind that so much, and its sober colours and decent length made it feel more work-appropriate to me than some of my other "going out" dresses. I got lots of compliments from my colleagues.

I loved the WHBM dress on you so much...that I bought it for myself! I love it on me, too

Plus: slim fit--but comfortable for walking and sitting thanks to the stretch in the fabric; bare arms but high neck (and maybe 1/2 inch longer on me), so I feel that the coverage is pretty good (not for work for me, but it's not a skimpy dress either). I adore it with your blush moto; I have some short sweaters (almost shrugs) that look OK, too.

Thank you for showcasing this look. I rarely go to WHBM, so I wouldn't have seen it without you.

Coming back to say that I ended up keeping the dress since I wore it last night. Some friends and I decided in the last moment to watch the gala evening of the local ballroom competition, and one typically dresses up for such events. I was pondering what to wear when the dress jumped at me :). I wore it with the same ankle strap wedges from the photos and sparkly black moto, as the AC was really strong.
So,, it definitely stays as an occasion dress, and it will go to work only if I find the right super long black cardigan. The good part was that it relaxes a little with wear and becomes less formfitting.

It is stunning on you and between being a great date night dress and the more "office-appropriate" style you describe with the boots and long cardigan, it could be a very versatile (and flattering) piece in your wardrobe, maybe even a signature dress for you.

I'm hoping you will keep it too as while it seemed maybe a bit distracting for work, there should be plenty of occasions for a young and beautiful woman to wear such a flattering dress.

I am so happy it is not sexist! It sounded to me like it possibly was, when you were saying you did NOT want to show off your beautiful figure. I do think you look absolutely stunning in the first dress, and really great in the second dress too while more demure. I hope you keep the first one to enjoy out of work and also perhaps with a long cardigan and tall boots, which as you say will dial down the "bombshell" factor. I am not certain that I have ever looked like a bombshell in my entire life. Pretty, yes, cute, yes. Now I enjoy watching my daughters in their 20s when they dress up, as they are about 8 cm ( 3 inches?) taller than me, thanks to their very tall father- who I must have managed to attract by being pretty and cute!

Angie, I do not think that I would be comfortable wearing it as is, hence my decision.I totally agree with you re: length, I much prefer the length of the other dress, and my favorite length would be even an inch or two longer. I just happened to really like the colors of the WHBM dress, enough to overlook that is in a length I do not like as much.

Firecracker, thanks!

Scarlet and Elpgal, if you are curious about something specific, feel free to ask. The job is indeed administrative - my whole department is administrative. Most people have PhDs, and there is roughly an equal number of men and women. The science is pretty interdisciplinary. I am wearing blazers roughly half of the time as toppers, but haven't see other women wear them much, except for one woman in a very senior position.
Here are three outfits I spotted in the last couple of days:
1. Hot pink fit&flare dress with fairly full skirt hat ends right above the knee, worn with buttoned up black cardigan, belted at the waist with thin belt, and black 2,5" pumps
2. Abstract floral print dress, sleeveless, fitted on top and gentle A-line on the bottom, scuba material, colors are mainly turquoise and orange shades, no topper, 3'5" tan wedge sandals
3. Floral sheath dress, black base with medium size bright flowers, small cap sleeves, mid-knee length, 3" wedge sandals

I am intrigued by your description of the dress culture of your workplace because part of the reason for my conservative eye is having a bio background and projecting that onto your current, albeit administrative (as far as I understand it), workplace. But having said that I think I would get behind either of these dresses with a long cardigan for your current work.

Tanya, if you feel comfortable at work in the length of the sleeveless body con sheath - WEAR IT. I'm Queen Pedantic About Lengths, so you know - I had to question it! Especially when the Kamalikulture dress length looks more elegant to my eye. Make sure you like the length when you sit down too.

I am finally back to comment in more details - it was a crazy busy day yesterday. As I said, I will not wear this dress to work if I keep it, the only exception may be with tall flat boots and super long cardigan of the same length as the dress. I can see how various elements of the dress which on their own may be fine, put together skew a bit much. I certainly do not want to look neither like an intern nor like a bombshell at work. I am very new at this job and hoping for a big promotion at the end of the first year, so it is best to err on the safe side.

I would also like to describe the dressing culture at work -it is a great place, I am pretty happy there and it is NOT sexist AT ALL. The dress code is business casual, and it is quite relaxed - everyone wears what they want within reason, some people skew dressier, some more casual, except certain occasions when everyone goes pretty formal. Also, I would say that nobody cares that much what other people are wearing. As I have mentioned before, I have been observing a group of women which hold the position I hope to be promoted too. At least for the warm season, most of these women wear dresses most of the time. Most of those dresses are just above the knee - same length as the WHBM dress in this post. Most dresses are also sleeveless, and toppers are worn with them about half of the time. The dresses are more often patterned than solid, and florals are the dominant patterns. Some of those floral patterns are pretty bright, and those are typically worn by women whose skin color allows them to wear such bright mixed colors. So the typical uniform is patterned sleeveless dress, solid cardigan and sandals. There is a woman who has a bunch of gorgeous dresses -she has worn probably at least 20 different ones so far in these two months, mostly sheaths and fit-and-flares, typically with 3" wedge sandals. I have seen the following less common items worn: bodycon midi dresses, cold shoulders, jersey jumpsuit in small leopard pattern, hot pink mixed with citron, shorter culottes (right under the knee), etc. I have even seen nicer (white and dark wash) jeans worn a couple of times, by very senior women though, so I am staying away from them for the time being. So dresses reign supreme, and there are some skirts and pants here and there.

Both dresses are stunning on you. I think the circle-patterned one is fine for work. Angie has an interesting point about the length on the floral one. That thought had not occurred to me. I kind of like it toned down for work, with a jacket over it. I'm less fond of the cardigan with it, because the cardi gives it kind of a demure look (rather than business-y). My thought was that it would look more work-like with non-strappy shoes. Maybe a simple black block-heeled pump. I think it would be worth figuring out a way that it could go to work easily, so you could be more inclined to keep it, since it looks so lovely on you.

P.S. I think it's great that you are using your new job as an opportunity to build a dress wardrobe, since you enjoy wearing them.

The second dress without a topper and the first dress with a topper are definitely fine for work. The first dress without a topper will depend on your workplace so you are the final judge. I know you say that others wear sleeveless dresses but since you are relatively new to the job, I'd play it safe and wear it with a topper for now.

Thank you all so much for your replies, they all helped a lot. I will write in more detail tonight when I get home since typing on the phone is annoying. However I have decided that I will not wear this dress to work. I am still deciding if it is worth keeping for out of work. My store did not have XS at the time, but I might order it online to compare. I am glad to hear that the other dress is fine for work.

Darling, Tanya. You look gorgeous in the dress. Of course you do. I'd have liked to see the XS for fit comparison since it's a stretchy dress.

Sleeveless is fine. Jackets look good. It's the length in the body con style that makes the difference for work to my eye. The Kamalikulture dress is a better length, and totally work appropriate. I have worn those dresses to work, no problem. What do you think?

The floral dress is fantastic and suit you perfect, I love it very much. I think you can wear it for job if you have not strict dress code, it is appropriate . I like it with blush jacket but it's a pity to cover such a wonderful dress.

I love your motos, but that's off topic.
The first dress is sexy, it's the way the flowers delineate curves. The effect is best dampered with the black cardi, but otoh it's a shame to hide a bombshell dress under a cardi.
The second dress looks work appropriate to me.

My second job is in a health organisation office with perhaps 40 staff. I would be mildly jealous if someone looked that good (like you do) at work, but mainly because I know I never look that good and I'm that much older and plumper. My jealousy is more wistful than anything. Several of the women are younger and quite gorgeous and dress up more, and I just think that's how they prefer to dress? Others dress down and seem to look sloppy at times, to me. I personally prefer looking at the dressed up ones! I think they may as well rock it while they can? But I'm not in a position to promote anyone and cannot tell at all if anyone is hoping that how they dress may help their career prospects?
Why are you particularly thinking that you do NOT want to showcase your lovely figure at work? Do you think someone would take you less seriously? Is your workplace that sexist? I'm either just confused here or less aware of that sort of sexism because I am quite senior but at the side of the hierarchy, as it were.

Wow! I love this dress! I do rather think paired with the ankle strap shoes it's a little 'hot' for work, although the other dress with the same shoes doesn't read 'hot' to me...

Although I agree that a side view would be helpful, I think both dresses are fine for work, but I work in a casual environment. It depends on your office dress code and your comfort level wearing those dresses to work. The floral dress looks well with and without a topper, and all three toppers look fine with the dress. You have a very modern, polished, feminine style.
