well, if you are in the Emory area you have to go to Falafel King and of course, Doc Chey's. Both of these are super affordable, local and YUMMY! That isn't midtown, but if you hop onto Ponce de Leon from there and head west you are in midtown in no time. if you really want to get ethnic hit Buford Hwy for Vietnamese, Japanese, dim sum etc. Man. I am starting to get hungry!

Laurie, thanks a MILLION!!! This gives us more than enough guidance for a weekend trip!
Sure, bring on any restaurant suggestions! We'll be in midtown near Emory University/Clifton Road area--isn't that considered midtown area?? I've eaten at Thaicoon off of Briarcliff and oh my gosh, was that place wonderful! The California Pizza Kitchen inside LenOx Mall was surprisingly good for lunch. We like Indian, Thai, Japanese, sushi, just about anything but steak places!

Hi St4rrgrrl!

Here is what I would advise: plan to do your major shopping in Buckhead. So, you can hit the Lenox Square Macy's (again), the Phipps Plaza Nordstrom and the nearby Nordstrom Rack that is brand new and very close to the above stores. Lenox Square and the super swanky Phipps Plaza are across the street from one another. The Nordstrom Rack is just a short drive away from there (5 minutes?). I looked for the location and it isn't listed on their website yet (because it's so new?) but the folks at the Phipps Plaza Nordstrom can direct you there.
As for H & M, the closest location is the Atlantic Station H & M which is a really really big and busy store. Plan to go there and visit other chain clothiers there- it's a great location for walking, people watching and Ikea visiting if you are so inclined.

As for vintage and local places, I would plan to visit the Virginia Highlands, East Atlanta and Little Five Points. As you probably know, Atlanta is a very neighborhood-oriented city. Once you find one you like there are great treasures to find! In my humble opinion, these are the best places to find great food, at local dives and bistros, not at bigger Buckhead restaurants.
If you want some food recommendations just ask! My husband is a crazy critical foodie and we have eaten pretty much EVERYWHERE in Atlanta.
I hope this helps you plan your trip to the ATL. Sounds like a crazy fun girls weekend! ENJOY!

The closest I've come to Atlanta has been it's insanely huge airport. But have fun and share the loot with us!

A girlfriend and I have planned a weekend shopping trip to Atlanta in July. It's not a high-pressure "buy, buy, buy" trip--it's really just to get away, eat at some great restaurants, and do some fun shopping together in some stores that are unlike anything that we have in our smallish city.

Although I'm originally from Atlanta, I really have no clue now where to shop there now. It's a little overwhelming! Last time I was up there, I stumbled upon a great sale at the Lenox Mall Macy's, which is such a beautiful store, with a huge selection of Karen Kane, INC, and MK Michael Kors (a good selection compared to the Macy's here where I am, at least)! Nothing like the Macy's in the smaller town that I live in.

So... anybody have suggestions on the best/most fun places to shop (reasonable prices) in the Atlanta area? We're not on a mission for any particular item of clothing. Neither of us is a specialty size (like plus or petite).

My friend and I have both always wanted to visit an H&M, so that is definitely on our list. I'd like to go to a good Nordstrom location, as well as a good Macy's--which do you suggest? I'd also like to visit a good vintage clothing store.

Thank you!
