Some titanium is alloyed with aluminium. It depends on where they are getting their stock- if it is recycled or ?? Titanium is also gray- not black so I am not sure what is going on there. TItanium oxide is white so it is not an anodize coating.

Titanium is great as it does not react with anything - except fluorides. It is resistance to all acids, bases and organics (blood) etc... so it should be one of the best materials for persons with allergies due to the fact is it so inert. I guess that is why it is used for medical devices.

I know on the market it is expensive- but I am not sure the cost of some of these items is totally justifiable. It is difficult to process though and tends to tear rather than cut... so perhaps it is the manufacture that is adding $$$.

Ah, I hadn't thought of that, Kiki and Elle. Good idea. I'll definitely ask around.
Astrid - Oh my, thanks for the warning.

Even when you're searching for titanium earrings - they might not be the real thing. My sister had a lot of problems with bad reactions. You might want to try a piercer, she had success with that.

Sometimes, jewelery repair shops can replace the post or wire with a titanium one. You might ask around locally to see if it is feasible.

Another option is to have the "in the ear part" of your existing gold metal earrings Rhodium plated, at a full service jewelry store. That is a sufficiently rare mineral most people are not sensitive to it.

Ooh thanks very much, Deb. I'd actually landed on that second site a while back when I was trying to find the Boccia pearl earrings I mentioned above. I was under the impression that they didn't ship internationally, but just had another look at their Help section, and they do mention shipment to European countries (you find out whether your country is included during the ordering process). Will try to order them now, and will have a good look around the other two sites too.

Hi everyone,

After not wearing earrings for a couple of years, I am so in the mood to start sporting them again. There's one small problem: my ears seem to have gotten more sensitive over the years. I used to be able to wear silver and gold. Then suddenly silver started to irritate my ears, and now the same is happening with gold. So I think the safest route to go is titanium earrings.

I've had a look around the interwebs but am not coming up with much that I like. So I'd love to hear if you have any go-to sources for fab, modern titanium earrings. I love minimalist jewellery with sleek, strong lines. I mainly wear small studs, but am interested in other styles too.

One of the things I'd love to find is a simple pair of white pearl titanium studs like in this link. (tried ordering this pair from their Belgian distributor, but they only deliver to retail clients, am still trying to find a store here in Belgium that might carry them).
http://www.bocciatitanium.com/.....Dohrschmuc...

Thanks!
