I live in the US (near Seattle) and got my closest fitting slip there this summer. I think you're on track with a slip, Spanx will cover your thighs but won't do anything to interrupt the illusion that one may see through to your legs. Slips at Target are also so affordable that if you need to trim some off the bottom to make it short enough you won't feel like you are destroying an investment.
