If you have Ross, TJ Maxx, or Marshall's near you, try them. I got a very nice, static-free, tight, straight black slip at Ross last year for just $8. I've worn it frequently and it doesn't ride up like most other slips.

I was going to say Target too. I live in the US (near Seattle) and got my closest fitting slip there this summer. I think you're on track with a slip, Spanx will cover your thighs but won't do anything to interrupt the illusion that one may see through to your legs. Slips at Target are also so affordable that if you need to trim some off the bottom to make it short enough you won't feel like you are destroying an investment. Actually, I don't even know where you would find an "investment" slip - but I hope you get my point!

If you don't want to wear Spanx, also consider just a straight-cut slip (full or half)--they work great under sweater dresses. Any slip will help your knit dresses hang better, in addition to fixing the transparency issue.

Agree with Sona - Spanx (or a knockoff - Target carries some, Costco has some, Nordstrom Rack has Spanx and Yummie Tummie. Even Sears, Kohls have shapewear sections. If you don't need the control as much just size up one.
I have this and wear it alot:
http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/sp.....tback=4256
ETA: there are also bottom only versions with built in panties or not and versions with built in bra .

Hi mgshakes, I'm in Australia so not sure if this helps but I have recently purchased 2 slips from Target that I wear under dresses and tunics. They are both a little sheer but are fitted and provide that bit extra to create the necessary "block out".

So I've recently purchased a couple of sweater / knit dresses for fall, and they both have the same problem: in certain lights, the skirt part becomes kind of see-through, as in, it's possible to see the outline of my thighs through my dress. (Sorry, I didn't explain that well...but I assume I am not the only one to have experienced this?) I'm thinking a sort of tight slip would solve this problem, but I don't know where to find one. Any ideas or alternative solutions?

Thanks!!
