Maya & Lyn, thanks for your comments.

Maya, I think you understand exactly what I mean. On some shoes, accomodating the "curve" of the heel makes the shoe ill fitting at the front. On others, it is not a problem.

Uh... I'd probably try to avoid overhang. I think I know what you are trying to say. But I'm not really sure. LOL.

I understand what you mean, and FWIW, I think it depends on your feet. If trying to accommodate the curve of your heel causes the sandal to be ill-fitting otherwise (too much of a gap in the front or back, too wide, etc), then it's not a really a compelling enough reason to size up. But if you can get away with it otherwise, then by all means do so.

That said, it doesn't sound like a pressing enough issue for me to really take a strong stance on...

Ladies, I wish I could explain it better. Thanks for trying to understand what I was attempting to say.

I would err on the side of no overhang lol! I'm sure we all have differently shaped feet and heels, but I would think as long as the actual sole of your foot is firmly within the footbed you're good to go. I find overhang, toes or heels, not an attractive look personally.

I'm exaiming my foot right now trying to figure out where the curve of my heel is....

But in general i don't think any of your foot should hang over your sandal? To me that means your sandal doesn't fit correctly...

...but suede sandals are appropriate for spring and summer (and maybe fall too)!

Not understanding what you mean exactly, but I think there should a small bit of space at the back and at the front of the sandal (so that your foot doesn't look squished in). I often go up a half to a full size in sandals (and clogs) to make sure my foot is adequately covered. I think it looks bad when someone's heel or toes hang over the edge of the sandal -- and dangerous for stubbing your toes. Does that help?

My best friend and I have an ongoing debate (in addition to the appropriateness of suede sandals in the spring & summer) about where your heel should hit when wearing sandals. She adamantly believes that the "curve" of your heel (the part moving towards the achilles tendon) should not hang over the back of the sandal. I, however, believe that the "curve" of your heel can hang over the back of the sandal as long as your heel does not hang over the back of the sandal.

I hope you all understand what I'm trying to say. I'd post pics but 1) I can't post pics via my blackberry and 2) I don't think my heels are quite camera ready (nothing a little lotion can't handle).
