I think the general truth is that the more "natural" and unprocessed a material looks, the less dressy the shoe reads. Raffia is far more casual than smooth leather, for example. I would put cork in the same category. Casual -- but not sloppy. These are a very refined casual shoe!

I agree with the casual vibe, but they look dresser than sneaks, converse and such. Hmmm, might be the shoe version of dressy jeans, if that makes sense.

Thanks all! I think I want to try them on - what can cork feel like? But I'll keep looking for something dressier. Or maybe cave and do a Shoes of Prey order.

I think they look casual, too. I don't know if it is the cork/espadrille connection, or what. I just did a search on Nordstrom: party/evening flats in beige, and only eight came up. The first two were under $150; the rest were between $525 and $975. Ouch! Maybe Zappo's will have something?

They're great shoes for most occasions, but not for cocktail or formal wear.

I like them for casual (including shorts) and some work outfits, but they don't read "dressy or evening/night out " to me. The cork is very neat!

I agree that the Anthro ones are a bit dressier due to the texture and the vamp like a smoking slipper, which IMO is a bit dressier than a bow. I agree with Kiwigal/Sally's suggested uses and I also think they would work with shorts that are fairly dressy. Not sure what your skin color is but these would be good "low contrast" shoes for a lot of light to medium skin tones. Now that I'm looking at them at the Anthro site I'm really liking the piping too....hmm....

I like both pairs Ann and think they are plenty dressy enough for most occasions. I have bought a similar pair and found them very useful.

I could see them

- with jeans
- with a knee length skirt or dress
- ankle or cropped pants

I would wear them at night except for cocktail or black tie.

These sorts of things always trip me up (a bad pun for talking about shoes). What is the dressy range for these shoes? I can see them with crisp jeans in a heartbeat, maybe a summer dress, or to the office. Are they too casual for night? Too dressy with shorts? If they were smooth leather would they be more or less casual?

I've been looking for an interesting pair of nude-to-me flats since I can't wear pumps, but I want them on the dressier side. Probably not these SW ones, but I've seen a few cork shoes and remembered to ask.

ETA: found that I had already saved the Anthro ones to my finds. They seem dressier, right?
