I have to admit that after reading all this I went running to my closet. I have never found a hole in any of my sweaters and coats, but I have lots of cashmere, lots... I keep it clean and well ventilated, and I put cedar blocks in the closet twice a year. No other maintenance.

K.M., it was macabre; I couldn't see it when inspecting the sweater but during freezing it apparently crawled up on the surface at the scene of the crime.

This experience supports my move toward fewer such sweaters but wearing more often in season-- so that I don't have the upkeep of so many with few wears per item- that would make it easier to freeze between wears or stire in bags. But it's still off- putting. I'm also wearing more merino which is less susceptible in my experience, though not immune.

A frozen larva!!!! I don't know if I find it cute or hair-raising.

I've had a lot of problems with moths lately. I try everything going, but the little monsters sneak back in whenever I turn my back. I'm getting quite paranoid!

I saved one before by freezing it, whereupon a frozen larva materialized, and mending the hole, which was very small. This hole is bigger and may be too visible.

unfrumped, when this happens, do you throw away the one that's been eaten? And how do you know it's a moth or something else (like a carpet beetle)? And is there anything that can be done? I've found suspicious holes in my pure wool or pashmina scarves.

The dreaded moth hole appeared in one of my in- rotation cashmere sweaters. So now I'm frantic to clean, to freeze or fumigate other sweaters.
I feel I know how to store them out of season, but what about the battle when they're in the drawer or closet?
I know there've been discussions on this before. I haven't had the energy to keep them in individual sealed bags when in active use, but maybe I
should. Folded , sealed and filed a la Marie Kondo!
Makes me unenthusiastic about woolens.
