I hadn't been overseas this century, and had never taken the kids overseas- 2 of them hadn't even been on a plane. If it wasn't for the rellies saying 'come and visit" I'd never have considered it - but it was so good. Having their kids, who are close to, and similarly aged to, mine so at home there meant my children just went with the flow and didn't seem to be worried&nbsp; by all the differences</p> <p>I missed the breads actually! I love chapatis and roti, but I can't eat them these days (as I have to eat gluten free because of celiac disease). I love carbs, so I didn't mind too much since I was active and on holiday, but like many of us I have cut down on them quite a bit in the last few years, so it did seem a lot.&nbsp; We didn't eat that much sugar (mostly in Nepali spiced tea) or fat.</p> <p><b>Maneera</b> and <b>Sally</b> - yes similar to thali. This particular presentation was fancy - often you just go a plate with rice and curry and a little cup for the dahl. One of the features of ordering "dahl baht' was that you got refills (unlike any other item on the menu). More rice, more curry and more dahl!. We were very grateful on the days when we didn't get to eat lunch until 3:30 and for DD10 who was a trouper of&nbsp; a walker with an appetite to match.&nbsp; We had probably 9 dahl baht meals in the 13 days (while locals eat it&nbsp; twice a day) </p> </p> <p> And in terms of other&nbsp;Indian foods we had&nbsp;dosai one time in Kathmandu too (pic 1), and curry and tandoori chicken twice as takeaway with the rellis. Majestic to say the least. How is the country recovering from last years catastrophic earthquakes? I imagine a lot of the ancient architecture and the spirit of the Nepalese from the loss of so many people, has been stolen forever. So sad when I think about how special it was before this tragedy. We spend some of the time with relatives who live there, sightseeing etc and most of the rest trekking!</p> <p>Packing wise, I could have taken a lot more (we had plenty of space and took lots of suitcases, partly to bring over things for them) but was a bit hamstrung by being told that I could only wear things with sleeves. I discovered I own almost nothing shortsleeved.
