I'm 5'2", short waisted. I do my best to buy petite sizes for outerwear to avoid that clunky look. Do you have access to petite sizes where you live?

For footwear, I enjoy my Aquatalias. They are extremely warm and comfy but not too chunky. Blondo and La Canadienne also make relatively sleek footwear that can handle nasty weather conditions.

i'm 5"4(ish), live in a cold but not frigid city. honestly for me, being warm trumps everything else
the 1st 5 finds are what i own/wear
the other 2 are what i'm thinking about for the future...i like the idea of belting as a way to make the puffier less "puffy"

What kind of climate are you talking about? If you're in the northeast or midwest, you probably need seriously warm clothing. And the colder it is, the more you end up looking a bit "puffy" in winter. Maybe that explains the popularity of the puffer coat -- if you can't beat it, enjoy it! :)

Currently, I live in a more temperate climate where I rarely need a parka for extreme temperatures. But I still have my old ones and occasionally they do some out! As someone said above, if you click you can get the info. I'm between 5'3" and 5'4".

I wear different coats/ boots for different levels of dressiness. A wool coat is dressier but might not be as warm.

I'm the same height and this is my collection-if you click the little i you can see details. The main thing for me is to have strong vertical elements and not add horizonal elements. For example the puffer has chevron shaped puffs not straight across. All my boots have almond to moderately pointy toe, instead of round, and are flat against my legs- not loose on top.

The last time I had true winter boots meant to look like sleek, tall dress boots, they came from J Jill a hundred years ago. Since then, it's gotten rather hard to find a non-stompy true snow boot, so I'll be watching this thread!

What kind of weather, and are you looking for gear-type boots (think snow trudging and waterproof parkas)? I get my gear-type stuff from Moosejaw, Backcountry, or REI outlet. I have found good deals on pieces that are previous seasons' versions or closeouts.

For milder winter (wet, cold, but not a foot of snow) These aren't necessarily "sleek", but I like the weatherproof Vans MTE sneakers, and the Heston boot by Cougar. Both are insulated, waterproof, and provide great traction. Vans has a newer version of the MTE with a meatier sole, but I haven't tried it yet.

For sleek boots I purchase leather which come in all sorts of waterproof and water resistant iterations plus there is a wide range of styles and lining options. Brands I have purchased which have regular winter friendly offerings include Blondo, Aquatalia and Bos. Co. I find them from other designers and companies as well. I live in a snowy and wet location so weatherproof shoes are necessary. I also have some sleek looking gortex lined nylon boots with thinsulate. I think they are my absolute favorites because they keep my feet warmest when it’s below freezing and they have good traction. It’s easy to find that sort of boot in my show size which is 8,5/9M. Do you have an unusual sized foot?

I am 5’9” so I am not the best resource for coats for someone of your height, sorry. However, warm coats are a primary concern where I live and big and puffy coats are preferred and very fashionable, the puffier, the better! :-)

I am not sure how warm you need. I am in Montreal which is known for having very cold winters. Montreal is also known for being very stylish.
I try to walk as much as possible and I like to keep warm. I am 5'7" so what I wear might not work for you but these are some ideas.
I wear wool socks, usually Smartwool. Under my jeans I wear knee high socks.
For footwear I wear, Sauté Mouton, a Quebec brand. The ones I have look like hiking boots but they have many styles. There are a few Quebec brands of footwear for winter boots. My opinion is that they know about winters. I have lived through enough winters to figure this one out. Sorel is another popular brand.
For coats I have two puffers that I am currently wearing. My LL Bean coat is a nice fit and pretty flattering. Unless you live in a very cold place it is very warm. My Lululemon coat is a midi length and a flattering cut. It is extremely warm. I probably wouldn't need it if I wasn't in a place like Montreal.

I'm not sure what your 'size' is, but have you tried Universal Standard? Have had my eye on the asymmetrical Kanda Puffer for a while. Otherwise I find that I definitely need waist definition & an above the knee length in coats, otherwise I look like I'm drowning in fabric (the curse of being under 5ft4, lol). Belted coats have been the way to go for this (enough space to still layer whatever I need underneath & then just cinch as much as needed).

For boots, I'm still trying to figure that out (yayyy to the impossible-to-fit combination of short legs & wide-fit calves, lol). I've had some luck in looking for more sleek silhouettes, though - I've found that FitFlop, for example, often do comfortable shoes where the sole is the same colour as the rest of the shoe (I like the lug sole trend but also find that it looks clunky on me - this solves this issue whilst still giving me good grip, winter-appropriate soles).

At my size (edit: 5'3), the heavy boots and coats I have for the winter makes me look like a sad, clunky blueberry. Where do you get your things from?
