Hello, and welcome to the forum!! The girls have given you fantastic advice to start with, and I think you got on the right track all on your own by zeroing on the formulas. That should help identify some staple pieces to focus on in the short-term such as a great pair of jeans, a versatile jacket, a couple of graphic tees or button-downs etc. A good haircut will be essential, as will a professional bra fitting (which doesn't have to be expensive at all). Once your foundation garments are in place, you'll be better able to make flattering purchases. Do post a picture, though. Knowing your body type and secondary tendencies will help immeasurably.

Also I had to say that I love your screen name!

I just wanted to say welcome to the forum, Angie's posts on wardrobe capsules have been of huge benefit to me
http://youlookfab.com/2009/06/.....lifestyle/
I also agree with the others about posting a pic to identify your primary body shape.

Hi and welcome to the forum. Here's my take on where to start

#1 Post a full body shot piccie of you in form fiting clothes so the gals here can sort out your bodyshape.
#2 Read Angie's blog posts for that bodyshape.
#3 Begin culling clothes which don't suit your bodyshape or at least identify the ones which need replacing

I think 3's enough to start with don't want to overload you x

Another helpful thing to think about is which colors look good on you. Read about seasonal color palettes and also spend some time holding colors up to your face. Go to a store and try on every color you can, which ones flatter you?

Not everyone does it this way, but I found it helpful to create a color capsule. Decide on a couple of neutrals and several colors that all work together and look great on you. Mine for example are grey, cream, sea blue and plum. I don't always buy items in those colors, but they're the building blocks.

Take a day and go through your closet and drawers. Try to figure out what you have that fits and flatters you. Be ruthless! If you'll be left without clothes keep the passable ones, but at least make a list of what you'd like to replace over time. Try to figure out what you don't have which would stretch your closet, maybe a pair of tall black boots or a white button down shirt.

It's good to have an idea of the styles you like, but I think you'll develop that over time. It's hard to know which way is up at first, but once you figure out the basics you can build on that.

Welcome to the forum!
Figuring out your body type will be essential. Once you have that down, you can search for old posts for that specific body shape.
If you're in need of a complete wardrobe overhaul- start from your foundation garments. Get a bra fitting done and make sure you are wearing the right size. If you just want to ramp up your style, then start with a good haircut.

I'm sure this question has been asked a hundred times by newbies, but if someone would indulge me, I'd appreciate it.

I want to dress better. Where do I start? I'm not sure on my body type...heading to that forum next. I'm not sure what my personal style is. I tend to like both a classic and trendy look. Are there staple items I should get in my closet as soon as possible?

I like the outfit formulas and have started there for now. Are there links to previous posts and such that I should be reading?

Thanks!
