I have similar shifts. Trying to reduce my style filters post-YLF.

The scariest thing God me is not straying to like something, but waking up one day and thinking something looks all wrong. Then I tend to feel like either I was a fashion victim or am one, and lack confidence and personal style.

There must be something to seeing styles/pieces (being more exposed to a trend) and growing affection for it. Are we just lemmings that despite our poisons eyes can quickly change? Is it because the newness, the way designers recreate pieces that they are ACTUALLY something different. Very interesting. I must say I will take long pauses when I have a change of heart with my poison eye. But I'm sure it will happen. Great shoe. Great post.

I started liking animal print a few years ago, too, and I love your find. I have been searching for a pair of leopard print shoes for ages, but they are never the right ones. Either the print is too loud, or the heels are too high. I have a scarf and a shirt that I love, and a skinny belt that has a nice print, but lacks quality. I also love greyscale snake prints on shoes and belts.

I'm exactly the same when it comes to animal prints. I had never bought any item in that print until I had a sudden liking for a top a couple of years ago. I've worn that top over and over, and still love it. For me, it still needs to be a very subtle colourway, and in very small doses - shoes, bag or belt perhaps.
Other than that, my eye tends to adjust very slowly to new silhouettes, so that a new shape has to become fairly mainstream before I jump aboard. Just call me a fashion dinosaur!

I didn't like leopard either, but then I got a pair of ballet flats, a skinny belt, and a scarf. Now I love the pattern, of course I don't wear them all together, one at a time. The flats get a lot of use! They are a neutral.

Hmm, I've become a lot more cautious about voicing my poison eye after having to recant more than once. So far, I've racked up reversals on boyfriend jeans, animal prints (just a scarf and belt so far), clutches for daytime, slip-on sneakers, and white jeans year round. I'm still hanging on to my dislike of skirted leggings and skater skirts on anyone over 30, but, given my track record, I'm shuddering to think what lies ahead for my closet.

Gorgeous shoes!!

I've never liked animal print on me either. We have a joke in our family that the animal print gene skips a generation because my mother loved them & so does my daughter.

Since joining YLF I've discoved snake skin which I LOVE. So I guess the gene is latent, just waiting for the right print to appear :)

I'm late to jump in with a new trend but I must say I've had leopard or animal print shoes for several years and I still love the way they instantly make a bland outfit interesting and current! Those shoes are killer, btw!

I have that problem with zebra prints, but not with leopard. Animal prints should be worn in small doses, IMO. I can't see myself ever wearing a zebra print, though I do like zebra prints when done right. It's all in the fabric and style.

I actually like a few of the Birkenstock looks this year. I still won't be buying or wearing the sandals, but I can appreciate them a bit more in the right outfit.

I'm very much like you....never wore leopard print until the last few years.....and adore it now. Although you do need to be selective with leopard, some prints look cheap and nasty. I don't think it was so much poison eye, more that I wasn't in to brown, whereas I now appreciate browns a lot more.
My poison eyes don't seem to change. There are some styles that I've tried and they look hideous on me, and they will furthermore be passed by.
Oh, and the shoes you have picked are really appealing.

Ann, I had the exact same reaction to animal prints in the past -- and started wearing/loving them just last year. Must say, though, that I limit myself to leopard, which seems more "classic" -- not sure I'm ready to branch into zebra. And not all leopards look good to my eye. I like the version on the shoes you show above.

ETA: Peri, I hear you on leggings, too. I never liked/wore them last time around in the 80s. I've had a pair from Alice + Olivia sitting in my closet unworn for 2 years. Then yesterday I was shopping at the Eileen Fisher company store and I really like theirs. As with jeans, I'm guessing different brands work for different body types.

Mine is slightly shifting on leggings. Freakish! Never ever thought that would happen. I still don't like to see them with just longish tops but lately I've been wishing I could wear them with a long tunic or short dress and sandals. Very weird.

I have never liked leopard prints. I don't know why. In the shops, I don't even look at the items, just walk on to the next choice.

I recently challenged myself to go on Pinterest and find 10 outfits a day that I like. When I do it for a month or two, I might have some more general observations, but already one thing has jumped out. What do you know, a raft of them incorporated a leopard print. Yesterday, it even seems like a good idea to build a mini-capsule of a few different items, maybe for fall.

I would happily wear those shoes. How did that happen? Must be y'all's good influence. Have you seen your tastes shift in similarly dramatic fashion?
