Good question! I love my Old Navy "skinny boyfriend" jeans, and wear them rolled. I have worn them a couple of times with booties lately, and I struggle with how high to roll them. Should they touch the top of the booties? An inch above? I feel like it's tricky to get the proportion right. And can I wear some cute colorful socks and let the socks show a little?

Karie, I'm short enough to unroll the cuffs a bit, and the boots I wear are above the ankle, so long underwear and/or warm socks don't show.

Viva, my BFs are also Gap - I have two, one in my usual size, and one in a size up. The pair in my usual size are quite big (although they don't photograph that way) and need a belt to hold them up. I tried them with my dressy booties today but didn't like that look. I think a rugged pair with a chunky heel is going on my wish list. The ones you showed from Zara look fantastic, I hope they work out!

Diana and Aquamarine, I was thinking the tall boots would create a jodhpur look, I'm not sure if I will like it, but I'll give it a try. It might work with my slimmer BF pair.

Tuile (and Una), do you let your long underwear show, or is it covered by socks/booties?

Suz, you're partially right - I'm too tall to unroll my BFs (they're Gap, not TR Cameron's) and have them be anywhere close to full length. I don't have the Cameron BFs, but I do have a lightweight pair of TR Brianna's, which (my pair anyway) is also a BF fit. They are very long at full length and I wear them unrolled in the summer. They're aqua and very lightweight, so definitely only a spring/summer jean.

I stop wearing cropped boyfriends once I need socks. I won't wear nude knee highs, just not my thing. I will, however, tuck slimmer cropped boyfriends into knee-high boots. I discovered this last year and found it so comfy without all that extra fabric around my ankles in the boot.

Una, Angie and I wear our TR BFs full length but that is because we are shorter than Karie. Angie left hers at the actual length they came and can wear hers full length with a small cuff (I believe); I had mine hemmed and can still wear them either full length (not cuffed) or rolled (in warmer months).

Karie's too tall -- her True Religions wouldn't be long enough for her to wear full length, I suspect. And most BF jeans are far shorter than the TRs.

I wear them with exposed ankles until it hits maybe 50? (No knee highs here - I find them uncomfortable and have certain weird associations with them I can't shake.). After that I still wear the bfs but either over my mid calf lace up boots (which lace up tightly so the shaft is pretty fitted on my leg) or tucked into tall riding boots. The latter is kind of a jodhpur look.

I wear my Gap BFs all winter. The leg opening is big enough that I can wear either booties or knee-high boots with them, and I kind of like the look of my rough Timberland knee-high boots with the cuffed BFs. It's a look, but I really like it. The Gap jeans are distressed and quite oversized, the boots are rugged, and I will do an oversized sweater. Very rough-and-tumble urchin.
My ankle length jeans (white and blue) are skinnies so I wear them with either booties and socks or tucked into knee-high boots, again, all winter.
Ankle trousers are only an inside work thing for me in the winter. In warmer months I will wear them outside with sandals or pumps but I haven't found the right sleek bootie to work with them for winter. However, I did just order these from Zara, and they may make all the difference.

To me, on my body, they feel out of season now. I don't know where I got that idea. But I just put away my semi-faded BFs and got out my dark wash skinnies with lots of scrunch in the ankle, which are too hot in the summer. All of this has to do with perception of seasonality because I live in LA. Although the BFs just feel drafty to me when the temperature dips a bit.

If you are asking if you can wear them if you still feel like it, I think absolutely yes. There are lots of ways of winterizing them. I'm sure you will look great!

I cannot answer to this well. But if we had winter I would probably keep the BFs in rotation with really slim and heeled knee boots underneath the BFs. I am thinking of those boots that are stretch material in the shaft so they fit nice and close to the calf.

I'm with you, Karie, and Suz. Mine are too short to unroll, plus I prefer the look of them rolled to begin with. If I'm going long and full-length , I prefer straight legs or skinnies. The few times i wore my bf's with even high shaft booties last winter, I kept looking down at myself thinking it looked off somehow. It's all a personal thing, I think

Suz, I wish I could wear my BFs full length, but alas, they are too short when unrolled. I will be indoors most of the day, and I think it's supposed to just be cloudy, not rainy/damp/wet. Oddly enough, I wear skirts and ankle pants straight though 'till winter, but BF jeans feel out of season now to me.

Kristin, I haven't tried them with taller boots. I've worn them with "cowboy" style boots, but not booties.

It depends entirely on the situation and the type of cold. If I'm going to be inside most of the time, I can handle them at the temps you are talking about with nude hose. But if I am going to be outdoors for any length of time, or if the cold is damp and wet, I need to wear full length BFs (which I can do, luckily, since I am short) and I need to have actual SOCKs on.

Thing is, I vastly prefer the look of BFs when they are rolled --- I like that extra bit of structure. So while I do not put my BFs away in the winter, I do not wear them anywhere near as often as I wear them in spring and fall.

Having said that, I wore mine today to the doctor's. I wore them full length with socks.

I am contemplating wearing my BF jeans tomorrow for a workshop day. The high temperature will be 60 F. I will wear knee-highs to keep my feet warm. Do you put your BF jeans away for the winter? I wear skirts with nude stockings until the snowflakes fly, so why not BF jeans?

I'll include ankle pants here too. At what temps. do you think it's too cold to wear BFs and ankle pants?
