Tan/khaki is a classic combo with green. You could try that instead of black. I think the top would go with any color, although you might want to avoid red and fuschia (and the Santa look).

I would wear either of those pieces with denim or tan or khaki or white clams or shorts or pants or capris or skirts. In fact, it seems like the sandals would go with almost anything in my summer casual wardrobe. You could also take the top in another direction with black leather on the bottom. And you could take it into fall and winter by layering it over a black sweater.

I'm not going to comment on the sandals, as I instituted a "no white shoe" rule awhile back (they are too hard to clean) so I have no recent experience on how to style these.

As for the top, this would go with so much more than black bottoms. White jeans were my first thought (yes with those sandals). Dark wash denim will work too. You could easily pair with navy. Do you like pencil skirts? Because I bet this would work tucked into a high waisted pencil skirt, which gives you a totally different look and more styling options. You could also wear it over a sheath dress, ala Rae. Do you have any of these items already? If so get them out and start styling and snapping pics for us...

As to your question in general, it defeats a purpose when it takes you too far into a style direction you don't really want to go. In other words, you wind up having to build a whole capsule around the lone item. I'm not familiar with your wardrobe but it is interesting to ask why these two items attracted you. Maybe building a small boho capsule is something you want to do? I don't know if I'd call that top boho... my first thought was "date night" or "night out with the girls."

As others have said, try the top with denim jeans or shorts or even a denim pencil skirt. It looks like it would work well with navy if that works better for you than black.

Caro's making a great point: What coloured pants do you already have? Black is the obvious partner for that top, yes, but I for example would find that too matchy (I've had issues with partnering black pants for years) --- why not jeans, something grey or beige (even SSB is great when not next to your face) or taupe, ivory or white, burgundy or red skinnies...? It would look good with a plaid as well, I think.

I think it's easy to downplay the boho vibe of the sandals by keeping everything else more casual or sporty. So instead of putting them together with a floaty skirt or dress, maybe try clams or jeans and a knit top or plain or striped woven shirt...? Let them be the most 'girly' bit of the outfit, so to speak, and echo just a little with accessories (bag or jewellery or belt with studs/rivets, say?)

I think it is ok to NOT buy to make them work. I keep doing this, and spending more and more money on something until I cannot stand that THING that I was trying to match in the first place. UNless you are SURE this top is one you want, I would drop it now, walk away and save your money for something that already fits into your real life

My advice fwiw. When I have a top that doesn't work I pull out all the bottoms that I have & try them all on - tiring but the only way to find out what works. I'd say if you don't already have at least 2-3 bottoms that work then don't keep the top.

If you buy things to go only with these items, that is defeating the purpose. With the suggestions you've already gotten, you can probably shop your closet to wear these. If you do need to buy other items, get things that will go with the rest of your wardrobe also. If that is impossible, then return them.

I love that top. The color and pattern are right up my alley. I'd wear it with dark wash or black high wasited skinny jeans, and flat booties/ankle boots; or with heeled booties and black ponte pencil skirt. Do you have any of those items already?

I could see the sandals with pencil skirts, flirty flowy skirts, Summer dresses, boyfriend jeans, skinnies or straight-legged jeans, shorts and clamdiggers...

I like the colour and pattern of the top. I like the idea of slim black pants, but you could also wear it with white trousers, white, blue and black skinnies or straight-legged jeans, clamdiggers, slim-fitting shorts...

No need to let these items become wardrobe orphans:-)

The shoes are too cute. Do they have a heel (hard to tell from the pic)? I could see you wearing them with some boyfriend jeans and fun printed top. See Kellygirl's recent post for ideas. If I owned the top, I would pair it with black pants for smart cas - or even a dark wash denim trouser.

I have these 2 items which I like but they don't have partners... When is it worth spending more to make them work? The green top looks good and is a new shape for me. It is not the quality I would wear to work but slim cotton black pants for smart cas would work do you think? I am trying to steer away from black which will irk me about spending to make this wearable. The sandals I love more and want to wwar them. Ideas if what to put with them? At home, I realise they are more boho than my wardrobe but its sooo hard to find cute ahoes that fit. What do you think?
