Carol, I see a lot of kitten heels online when I'm shopping, much more than in past years. I think they're on trend. So now would be a good time to try a lower heel, since there are quite a few to choose from.

Beautiful shoes, MsMary! Looks like you really like a classic pump, and maybe I need to try a lower heeled pump. Those look plenty high to me.

For the longest time I wore very high pumps every day even though they hurt my feet. Now I am very very picky about my shoes and I won't wear them if they hurt. I still wear some of the high heels but have grown fond of kitten heels in the last year or two. Also block heels are a lifesaver for me. Strangely, the shoes that are hardest on my feet are ones that are completely flat so I do best with a mid-heel, I think.

Here's a selection of my current shoe wardrobe. I'm wearing the leopard high heeled pumps today and they are reasonably comfortable.

I like low-heeled sandals, Suz, so I may be in the same boat, it's possible low heels are good for me. But I never know, because I default to the same shoes all the time. Just trying to get out of wearing my Uggs and ballet flats every day.

I never wear heels over 3 inches. 3 inches is for "dressy" events.

My foot is a bit like Staysfit's so a heel of 2 to 2.5 inches is actually ideal for me. A complete flat (like a ballet flat or a flat flip flop or moccasin) causes me more pain than a heel would cause. Sneakers are "iffy." In the ones below I have to wear an insole or else they are not comfortable for all day wear. My sweet spot is 1 inch to 2.5 and most of my footwear falls into that category. I will walk all day in most of my shoes.

I wish my feet could handle heels everyday, but they just can't. I save heels for business meetings and special events, and the occasional whim of my day to day, but for the most part I'm in flats everyday.

I rarely wear heels over 3" anymore, even though I used to years ago when I first found YLF. I walk more on a daily basis now, and my feet have become less tolerant. However, all the shoes below are in my wardrobe and are quite wearable, some more than others (some are obviously lower than 3", I just wanted to show a selection of my wearable heels). Even 3" block heels are starting to become wearisome to wear for a day that includes much walking, so more and more, I'm reserving those for dressier occasions and times when I won't be as active.

I don't wear heels very often anymore. When I did wear them daily, arch support was key for me. I have freakishly high arches, and if they weren't supported then I couldn't handle it.
Once I figured out the arch support, it was easier to figure out if a shoe was going to rub blisters on my heel or foot right away when I tried them on in the store. Possibly because I had been dealing with blisters for so long, trying to find shoes that didn't give me cramps in my feet.
These days, I'm having a very similar problem with flats. It's even harder to find arch support in flats that in heels, so I'm still working through the whole comfort issue with flats.

I consider heels to be 3 inches or higher for me and honestly I rarely wear them even though I can still manage them just for a shorter time than I used to. I LOVE them but they are just not practical for my lifestyle. (I don't work in an office.) I struggle with this because I just love high heels, especially a classic pump. I do still wear them to social events and occasions that do not require much walking or me to be on my feet much. About four hours of constant standing at a cocktail party or wedding is about all I can take in my most favorite SW heels (I always have a change of shoes stashed in the car for the ride home) and valet parking is a must.

For daily wear I'm always on the lookout for a lower heel that is comfortable for all day running around. It's either booties, loafers, sneakers or a lower block heeled sandal for me.

I wear heels pretty much 50% of the time , but never stilettos or ski-high heels. A toe condition has prevented me from wearing my favorite pumps in the last 5 years (but this is on its way to be resolved). So most of my heels have been on booties or shoes with some vamp so my foot is held not only from the bottom but from the top as well. But I am petite (5'3'') and I like to dress up, and leg lengthening is always a concern when I put an outfit together.

In my case, events don't dictate heel height. Outfits will. So you can find me anytime with heels, even on my way to the gym, sometimes for shopping even (so I can try thing with a heel). Of course I wear exclusively the best, most feet friendly brands (Rockport, Joseph Siebel, Clark etc.). Not to be a snob but because a good pair of shoes that won't hurt makes all the difference in the world.

It's amazing to see Angie's impressive collection of flats.

I do wear heels and mainly to work, wearing them for about 9 hours at a time. I find heeled boots easier to wear than pumps because my feet get much more support from them. These are some of my heels all of which are extremely comfortable, except the pumps which are new and need to be worn in a bit.

I'm another never. And I never really have. High for me is 2" and that is OK for work only because I have a desk job. If I have to run errands after work they hurt my feet. I don't really like totally flat though, I prefer an inch or so.

I like them for social events, usually restaurants/concerts/parties etc. I’m fine in them for light walking.
I definitely wouldn’t be able to wear them on a day where I need to be on my feet rushing around all day though. For work I wear flats.

I still love to wear heels up to 3”. I have very high arches in my feet, and do not find that type of height at all difficult of uncomfortable to manage, The times I don’t wear heels above 2” are when it’s raining, because floors indoors are likely to be slippery; when it’s snowing, because it’s just impractical and dangerous; and when I know I will be in a building where it’s also potentially dangerous. Otherwise, I wear them. My exceptions eliminate around 2/3 of my work days. I would wear a heel up to 2” at any time. I feel very secure on two inches or lower any time.

Hardly ever Carol. Viz a pair I adore which I bought for an interview in 2010. I have worn them 4 times ever. Last time late 2016 to a Christmas dinner/dance and took a more comfy red pair to dance in. Some Fabbers told me last year they shouldn't be in my wardrobe having worn so little in at that point 7 years. I'm now doing an Angie and buying all lower heels or flats. I'm 57 and my knees are not as good as they once were. I've injured one knee 3 times and both ankles at different times so must be careful.

Angie, that's interesting. I never would have known flats and low heels are trendier, although I do see a lot of low heels being advertised now.

Gigi, and just a note for everyone, I liked your recommendation to wear them for errands. I told myself that over the past couple of weekends. Just today, I wore a pair of black wedges to walk to the grocery store and back, 2 miles roundtrip. I brought a pair of flats just in case. But I survived, and that proves I can wear that pair for longer periods. If only all my heels were that comfortable!

Heels are really something that you have to experiment with to find out what works for you, and when. I wear heels frequently, but I generally don't have them on for more than 4 hours at a time. I wear anywhere from 2.5" block heels to 4" stilettos.

The comfort level depends a lot on the support from the exterior (I find stiletto booties more comfortable than strappy stiletto sandals, due to the fact that there is more external support for my ankle) and the type of heel (block heel is way more comfortable than stiletto). There is also the matter of how much cushioning is in a particular pair. And recently I've come to appreciate that some shoes have the arch in the "magic spot" for your foot and can be worn for much longer. All of this knowledge comes from trial and error, so it takes a while and can be expensive.

I have high-heeled shoes that are comfortable enough that I could walk around the mall for a couple of hours without any pain, BUT I find that it's a nuisance to wear heels if you are going to be walking a lot. You can't take as long of a stride, so it takes longer to accomplish things that require covering large distances. So if I am going to be walking all around the mall, I choose to wear flats or very low heels (say, 1") so that I can be more efficient with my time.

In your situation, if you are taking the bus, I would wear flats if you have a long walk to work once you get off the bus. You can cover the distance more quickly in flats, and you won't have to worry about damaging your heels by getting the heel stuck in a hole in the concrete (I've damaged heels by walking on poorly maintained sidewalks).

If you want to try to wear heels more, my suggestion would be to start wearing them on short errands, maybe to the grocery store, to a restaurant with friends, etc. You could also wear them to the mall if you're not in a hurry . This will give your feet time to adjust, and it will help you figure out what styles and brands work best for your foot.

Carol, thank you for the compliment.

In my professional opinion, I think the era of the high heel is gone. LONG gone are the days that you needed to wear high heels to elevate your style. Fashion is becoming a lot more practical and "real" with each passing season, (and I am VERY thankful for that). It's actually trendier and fashion forward to wear flats and low heels (up to two inches). That said, high heels are a classic for formal events. And those who do wear high heels regularly are not unstylish. It's all part of the melting pot where almost anything goes.

Kathie, one of my favorite pairs of heels were Oxfords. From Payless!

Always trying, shoes fall off my feet, too. I've discovered ankle straps work well for me.

Cardiff girl, my walking lifestyle makes it awfully hard, too.

Aurore, those heels look comfortable. I have never tried a cushioned platform.

Angie, great shoe collection, thanks for sharing it. I like how you said you "never" wear heels, yet you still manage to look fashionable, that's inspiring.
Pedestrienne, LOL! I used to walk around barefoot all the time. Even though I value comfort, though, there's something about heels I find really beautiful.

I don't wear high heels anymore. Most of my shoes are less than 2". I have a pair of booties that's almost 3", but part of it is a 1" platform sole, and I wear them only indoors and when I will be sitting most of the time.

I can’t be bothered— I walk too much!
But I do wear fake eyelashes somewhat regularly, so there’s that.

I'm on Team Never with Angie. I can go up to 1.5" to achieve certain looks -- I have a pair of sandals with a 1.5" heel that I really enjoy wearing, and some boots with a 1.25" heel, but most of the heeled shoes I try on do not feel like "me" and make me feel like I'm trying too hard. If I were only allowed to own one pair of shoes, I'd say to heck with fashion and go for something zero-drop with a wide/round toe-box. And in a mild climate, without any social strictures, I would be straight-up barefoot all the time!

I keep these to look at because they're pretty. I don't wear them. Heels are too high.
