Thanks TexStyle. You are right!

Yes I am comfortable with it. In comparison today I am wearing a jacket/blazer/coat that I love but that is a bit hard to style. I love it so am happy to wear it in only one or two ways or work with my wardrobe to style.

Thanks Carol. I think a scarf with the shirt would look good and I also agree simple sandals with the pants.

But I have decided not on me. Neither are quite right in the fit - and the shirt is also not in line with how I want to look. I like it- but not on me. In my mind a stylish city architect could wear this. But I can’t carry it off.

I will put in my two cents, even though the conversation seems to be over.

I can see how both items "don't work," making them difficult to style, but I do see the potential. The pants might work with a simple black thong sandal, or something like that. The top--I think the color is great. I can see how the upper area is hard to work with. But I see maybe the collar as the problem. So trying one more or one less button opened is worth a try, or covering the collar with the right scarf.

Late but agree that the shirt and pants just aren't doing it for you and best to let them go to someone else. I love the red and black cropped pants on you so it is not the cropped idea, just this particular pair. But I do relate - I do the same thing with designer items that I want to work but just don't .

Thank you - I appreciate the feedback. They will both go.

The shirt was an expensive mistake, but the pants were second hand, and were worn a bit from 2021 to 2023 when I first bought them. I suspect they were made in the era where ankle pants were everywhere. I still have one pair of cropped denim that I like with sandals in summer - they don't get a lot of wear, and a pair of charcoal cigarette length pants which I wear with my black mary janes or black platform sneakers and black socks.

I am really happy with identifying the fussy issue with the shirt because it helps me to avoid this when shopping. And also the shoulder line being off.

Donate! When I feel as you feel about these two pieces, I let an item go with relief, not regret.

It's disappointing, for sure, but these "mistakes" are how we learn, and keeping the item in the closet does no one favours.

I agree with what others said about the shirt's fuss and colour -- a fun experiment but not to be. And you are over the pants! Make room for something that will serve you better.

I'd let it go - it doesn't do for your style preferences and not making you feel great ( reasons enough ). 2 years of the holding zone is enough time for pieces to go to someone' else home.

I have an issue letting go, but sometimes the universe, err i mean the clothing item is just telling you it’s time. I had a sweater I wore a lot, and then one day I put it on and then took it off. I thought I just wasn’t feeling it that day, same thing happened the next time, I put it away for the season, and then the next winter, same thing. But it took me until the end of that year before I finally past it on. If your not feeling it, and it’s been more just once, let it go

I relate with this kind of thing! I agree with the other observations about the top — it’s cool but also the fussy factor, combined with your feelings about the color, mean it should probably go. The pants are less obvious, but again I consider how they feel as well as how they look, and if you don’t feel great in them, I’d say let them go.

Good job in identifying your discomfort and analyzing the source! I’m always working on this too. Sometimes it’s in the styling, and sometimes it’s just the piece itself.

As others have mentioned, its probably time to call it quits on these 2 pieces. Even though they're designer, they aren't the right design if they're feeling off or fussy.

Agree that the top should go. I would still try the pants with different shoes. The pants read summer-y to me and that is why they seem off with the boots imo. Try them with sandals and sneakers before you donate them. So besides the boots being not quite right I think this top is also too visually heavy for these pants. I still am not a fan of the top in general though.

The top seems fussy and needs to be tied in a very specific way for it to work. That would be too fussy for me, and I am betting for you too.

It seems like a similar situation to my cropped white jeans and black shirt I showed on the forum recently when the fabric of the shirt was too heavy next to the light-weight jeans. I will still wear them with a more suitable top.

To answer your question when a piece has been in my mental holding zone for a long time and then I wear It and it still seems off and I have tried various stylings then it is time to part ways.

I agree with what Angie said about the shirt. The wrap causes a pulling at the shoulders. Is there a way to tie it more loosely, so that the crossover sits lower and looser on your torso, just over your hips? Maybe you have already experimented. If you feel you have exhausted the possibilities, I’d let it go. The pants look fine to me but I’d prefer them a little longer.

Sal, you are not alone! I have several tall clients who are sick of too short pants and jeans. Thankfully inseams are longer these days, and Talls and Longs are available too. AND sometimes we can let down a three inch hem to create the right length.

DON'T SETTLE. Find bottoms that are long enough for your tall height and long legs :)

How disappointing when things just refuse to work as intended.
Olive shirt - yes, style is not exactly yours but the main problem to my eye is a color. It’s too muddy for you.
Pants - maybe they only look wrinkly in this picture and not in real life? Or they are too slim?

Sweet, Sal, this is GOOD information. Your outfit gave you useful feedback, and now you know. We all make shopping mistakes. It's inevitable! The best we can do is learn from them. Pass on both items.

My 2 cents, FWIW:

The wrap detailing of the shirt is a little awkward over the bust, thereby doing odd things to the fit of the sleeves.

The white pants are too short, and possibly a bit clingy on the calves. I bet you'll prefer longer white pants with a wider hem width. You've been reacting to too short pants for tall you for a while, and with these - your feelings are climaxing.

The shirt has both color and style going against it for you, so I'd say it's fair to let it go.

I agree with Donna that I would try the pants with different footwear. Sneakers or sandals or your green pumps, for example. But maybe you already have done that. I would ask what else is bugging you about them--what sent them to the holding zone?

I have some things in my closet that I keep choosing not to wear, and yet I hold on to them. So I have a hard time with these questions, too.

Thanks Donna. When I thought of my style moniker of authentic chic and my words of bold elegant sporty and unfussy I think it only meets the bold one. For me.

I could try the white pants with my black Mary Jane shoes. But I am tempted to part with them as they have been unworn for about two years when I stored them away. They weren’t right then and I feel they still aren’t right.

My first thought when I saw the shirt was that it is too fussy for you -- so I agree with you. I would try the pants with other footwear before you pass them on.

When I look at the old photos I think the shirt is too fussy for me. With my goal being unfussy i am tempted to donate or sell.

Both these are designer pieces - which is interesting.

I wore this outfit yesterday to work.

I really don’t like it. I have had these white pants in my holding zone for two to three years. I think they should be donated- I used to love the cropped ankle pant and still like it - but these are not the right pair for me. Especially with the ankle boots.

Last year I bought this olive shirt as a wildcard and a way of pushing my style. But I don’t think it is good enough on me to warrant keeping. The colour is a bit muddy, the shoulders don’t give me
a good shape - and it is not that flattering. That’s not my main goal any more but a cool shirt is not enough. The shirt can be wrapped and worn two ways so I have attached pics from last year showing that method.

Do I call it quits on these two pieces after a bad day or persevere?
