I agree with Angie - when this happens to me I stop looking & they reappear.

That's when I really hate shopping. When you have something specific that you NEED, of course you can never find it. If you were to just go out looking for a nice skirt of some kind, you'd find all sorts of awesome ones, I bet!

I hate it when things like that happen. There is so much trend and embellishment sometimes that one can't find a straightforward item. YUCK !

I was going to suggest Old Navy, too. I did see a couple of UK sellers with a quick search.

http://www.darksideclothing.co.....Skirt.html

The Dorothy Perkins appears sold out, but maybe they have this year's model? http://www.polyvore.com/black_.....d=24733536

Beyond that, can you try premium denim lines? I saw Earnest Sewn and Paige both had some in their lines at some point.

Kim, I haven't seen longer ones either. I don't think I would be able to do that, not because of difficulty but because... I don't buy things and then transform them into other things. I like to pay for things that are exactly what I wanted them to be in the first place. I know this a sort of philosophy and might not make sense to DIY practicants here, but that's how I feel.

Suz, I don't think I have any Old Navy around...

Do you have Old Navy where you are? I wonder if you might have some luck there. It is very frustrating when you are looking for something simple, classic, easy to wear -- and you can't find it.

Tell me about it. I'm looking for jeans, just a simple dark wash with 1-2% Lycra, and no whiskering. No luck so far. I've found bf jeans, distressed jeans, coated jeans but no basic jeans. Ugh.

All the best with the skirt hunt

Ramya, I like my denim skirts the way they are! Perfect length and wash, which is so hard to find. And the ones I don't wear anymore are from three years ago, when I used to dress more casual and sporty with thick tights and trainers -> they are ragged and too short.

Hmmm my mom did DIY like this with one of my old denims,
Perhaps that may be an option?

I know Irene :)
But to my luck I lived in India till last year with ample access to fabrics and good tailors :)
I used to get what I wanted .
But now I know the pain of trouble to find a tailor to hem the pant length :(

Its so annoying when you fall in love with classics which are sooo not "In trend"

I think I'm almost failing to buy a black denim short skirt. I've tried all my usual stores to no avail. I'm seeing MANGO has some up on their website but didn't see any in-store. A SA (the only nice one I found, btw), went in the storage room to check if there were any left (exactly, they were relegated to stock-room, not on the rails), she told me there weren't. Then said the black skirt was coated, which is not what I understand by 'denim black miniskirt'. I want something I can use for years to come, not something I'll be ashamed of in two seasons.

The funniest anecdote was when I enter this store, and approach the SA. She's smiles at me, politely. And I ask, 'excuse me, have you got any black denim skirts left?'. She looked at me as if I was asking for a turquoise midi with sequins on the waist-band, lace at the bottom, a slit at the front and polka dots somewhere in the middle. She could have said 'Oh my, but that is SO 2011'.

PS: Was looking for something like this, slightly longer though.
