I think the main question is - what was in the outfits you did like?  Was it a different color combination? adding a certain accessory? mixing prints? monotones? textures? the layering system you chose?  I've discovered I am exceedingly happy this winter putting together a top, rather plain usually, with a topper, rather warm usually, a scarf or necklace for "pop", and neutral dress slacks.  Sometimes there is a bit of mismatch in the combinations, but it doesn't seem to matter.  I am kind of "uniforming" it, but each day I feel comfortable and "me." Example outfits: black herringbone slacks, black with white dots chiffon tunic blouse with cami under, royal purple boiled wool zip cardigan, black/white/purple/turquoise/green/pink print silk scarf. Gray slacks, dark purple long sleeve tshirt, black corduroy military style blazer, purplish burgundy and forest green plaid fringed scarf. Black slacks, dark peacock blue shell sweater, citron boyfriend-shape cardigan, blue/citron/black/gold/greens infinity scarf. I've analyzed what elements are making these so satisfactory and what I come up with are low contrast, darker tones, layers of color nevertheless, comfort factor but polished due to topper layer, using my favorite pieces and being non-super-matchy. Wide open to suggestions!  Note:  my head is cut off in all of these because it was diverting my attention with weird expressions, dressing room hair, etc.  You'll also note that I broke out the real camera for this project. 1. I wanted the jacket to be the star of this one, but something's missing...cute shirt sleeves peeking out, scarf? 2. I need a belt without hardware for this one.  Different necklace? Cute jacket? 3. These are the brown jeans I thought I loved...but where's the scrunch?  My thought is to have them altered into skinnies/ankle pants and stuff them in my tall brown boots.  Thoughts? 4. One thing I noticed was how much difference different shoes made ( hello, Angie, Suz, and caro). So i had to learn to tell the difference between an item or outfit that was truly a dud vs. something that was flattering and that i still liked, but needed to be used with different items than before. ( still learning that) Angie has a lot of posts that relate to that in some way. Also, would you consider posting the combinations that were close but not quite right for help with tweaking them?
