No coffee, no tea, no soda: not because I'm virtuous but simply because I don't really like them. But I love to drink freshly squeezed OJ/ grapefruit juice and I chug at least a litre of water every day.

It was fun to read all these replies and get new ideas.

I drink tea daily and coffee on special occasions, like "going out for coffee" ;)

My current favorites are Chai Rooibos (with cream), Orange Vanilla Rooibos (also with cream) and herbal peppermint (no cream).

If I make coffee at home, its in a french press, and with cream.

No artificial creamers for me ... just pure heavy cream.

I normally drink peppermint or Earl Grey tea.

In terms of real tea, I drink good old fashioned Irish breakfast tea without any milk as I'm lactose intolerant but this only happens when there are no herbal tea options.

This is a really cool thread! And made me realize how many ways I love coffee and tea and don't spend much time or effort to indulge in either on a daily basis. I should though.
Favorite way to enjoy coffee: medium roast, french pressed, with 1tsp sugar some milk.
Favorite tea: 1. Darjeeling Makaibari blend, black, tiny bit of sugar
2. The real home made masala tea with Assam blend...similar to the one that is sold in diluted form in Starbucks.
3. Any variety brewed with ginger or sometimes pepper...soothing when I get a cold.
Love the smell and taste of good coffee. But the Folgers at work that just sits there in a pot for hours is disgusting.

For me it's black tea (Keemun), plain. I don't brew it extra-strong, but enough to enjoy the flavor. I also like light oolong teas, but it's more of a treat. I don't use tea bags, but in the past my only good experience with bagged tea was with the British Whittard brand. Maybe they just use better tea for bags in UK and in general, it seems like there you can get a decent pot in any hole in the wall.
I drink coffee very rarely, and it's usually Turkish coffee. I like how a little bit of sugar enhances the taste. I haven't been to Portugal, but I loved coffee in Spain, is it similar? It was strong, but not over-roasted, and I like that.

Coffee drinker here. Two small cups each morning with 1 tbsp half and half. It whitens up the coffee best :)

Whenever I had the good luck to visit the UK, I drank tea like there was no tomorrow. Either it's the milk or the water there, but it just tastes better than it does here!

Kari and Louise - I do this too! Never drink coffee, but "go out" for it

Louise, let's see if I can rival you in tea consumption
After breakfast 2
Mid morning 1
After lunch 2
After nap 1
After tea 2
That makes 8 and that is my absolute minimum! (often more in the afternoon)

I have it medium strength, plenty of semi skimmed milk, no sugar. I prefer Dilmah, but drink Fair Trade when we can get it (Scarborough Fair is our favourite)

I often have an additional cup or two of liquorice tea too

Oh yes Bella - the tea in Turkey was lovely - I normally don't like black tea, but the Turkish version was yum! I think I put in about a 1/4 of the amount of sugar than the average turkish person though.

I also really like proper mint tea made the Moroccan way poured from an arms length up or more!

That's funny that so many of us love the smell of coffee but loathe the taste. I grew up with coffee-drinking parents, and I actually missed the smell a lot when I didn't live with them anymore. (My boyfriend also hates coffee - our first date was to go "out for coffee" only to discover that neither of us actually drinks it.)

I start my day with a big pot of tea, usually a flavored black blend, or sometimes flavored rooibus. I make it pretty strong and don't add anything into it. (When I go out for tea, I actually do like to have a little cream and sugar - just not at home.)

Another tea girl here! We are also big tea drinkers in Turkey, for breakfast, 5pm and after dinner with multiple servings in between as occasion and need arises!:) We like our tea black and I don't take sugar. I mostly prefer to take my tea in my Hello Kitty San Francisco mug for convenience (it is a good size, no need for refills) but Turkish tea is served in pretty tea glasses like this:
Fancy:
http://images.gittigidiyor.com.....7301_0.jpg
Everyday use:
http://travelingtaste.com/wp-c.....ardagi.jpg
(We also use sugar cubes, loose sugar is only used for baking purposes)

Your host would keep filling up your glass unless you indicate that you don't want any more servings by placing your tiny tea spoon over your glass like this:
http://www.almayageldik.com/ur.....-637-b.jpg

Great thread as I am an espresso lover here - I love my morning Bialetti pot of espresso, with a heaping spoonful of turbinado sugar and fair amount of 1/2 & 1/2.

We have four coffee drinking adults in our house and we each have our own coffee maker (3 Bialetti's of different sizes lined up remind me of Goldilocks & the 3 Bears . . .)

We think our passion for 1/2 & 1/2 came from our Norwegian side (they never fear rich foods) and have been known to make emergency 1/2 & 1/2 runs late at night for morning coffee.

I usually go to bed looking forward to my morning coffee ;-)

If I need another hot drink in the day, I make a strong black tea with a bit of, you guessed it, 1/2 & 1/2!

I'm an herbal gal all the way; I gave up caffiene (chocolate included) my junior year of high school. It used to be an evening ritual for the hubby and I to have a cup of tea every evening but neither of us has gotten used to the taste of equal in our tea and we got out of the habit. I like my tea fruity or cookie flavored with sugar and only put milk in (I'm used to skim now) on the odd occasion when I have decaf chai. I'm very uncultured and drink it out of heavy turquoise stonewear mugs.

How many cups does everyone have in a day?

At my peak I was drinking probably 8 cups a day but I have cut back pretty severely to 3 cups--one in the morning, one when I get home from work, and one at night. On weekends I still drink around 5 or 6 cups though...mostly loose since I have the time to make it and clean up afterwards.

Every year when my mom goes to India, she brings back boxes of Twinings Assam tea, which is not available in the US (other than some overpriced specialty gourmet stores). She is going again next week and all I can think about is tea and new pashminas (oh yeah and family too)! It is the BEST bagged tea I have had. American Twinings tastes very weak and watery and I find their Earl Grey revolting--it's all bergamot and no tea! But Indian Twinings is special. Twinings is the only bagged tea I can bear to drink.

Hah! Nice thread! LOVE the smell of coffee but cannot stand the taste in any form. Isn’t that weird?

I am a TOTAL teapot. Drink multiple cups throughout the day. I like my Twinning’s earl grey tea hot, strong and sweet (one sugar) with a tiny bit of fat free milk. Unlike Maya – no full cream milk please as it makes me feel ill. I’m very fussy about the lip and the size on the cup too. Must be fine bone china and very dainty – otherwise my entire tea experience is ruined. Sometimes I have English or Irish breakfast but nothing herbal. Must have loads of caffeine.

I started drinking coffee when I was 17 in France so I started on the good stuff!

I have always been careful to never drink it as a "wake up" so I tend to wait until I get to work (or in NZ on my way to work) before I have my first one.

One of the things that I like about my only "proper" coffee of the week is that Monmouth rotate their beans, so you taste beans from all over the world and you can definitely pick the African from the South American from the Asian after a while - like tasting wine ;)

Told you I was a snob...this is one of my favourite topics!

I haven't had any coffee since I was 5 when I used to drink copious amounts of black coffee with lots of sugar every morning! It's long story but I guess I've had enough for a lifetime! The smell makes me sick now to the point where I've convinced my husband to take his morning coffee at work rather than at home.

I drink lots of tea - I prefer loose leaf, black, with sugar only. I used to drink it more traditional chai style where you use really strong, powdered tea mixed with boiled milk and water (about half/half). But with lactose intolerance rearing its ugly head in my early twenties, I gave it up.

I also like green teas (especially pu-erh) which I drink plain. At night, I like to drink some fruit/chamomile or fennel tea (none of which is tea, I know!), with a bit of sugar.

I'm addicted to earl grey and drink countless cups per day. Most often I drink it black, but if I want something sweet I add a bit of sugar and a splash of nonfat milk or half and half. I drink tea throughout the day, but it's customary in my home to have tea after dinner... not sure if it's a Russian thing but it's always been the norm.

I drink tea much more often than I drink coffee, but I do drink coffee occasionally. I have a Keurig which is an amazing tool. I never put sugar in my coffee. I will either drink it black or with a bit of half and half.

I do enjoy fancy espresso drinks, though those are too expensive for my current lifestyle.

I sell loose tea so I am rather spoilt for selection! In the morning I start with Irish Breakfast, strong with milk and a tsp of sugar. Mid-afternoon, its either Earl Grey or Genmaicha - my favourite green tea, and after dinner I like Rooibos Chai. I usually take my tea in a cup but a mug will do just fine as long as I get my tea!

I have a cup of coffee every morning, with Silk (soy) Creamer, vanilla or hazelnut. Then I switch to decaf green tea for most of the day and Sleepytime or mint tea at night. I prefer tea in glass mugs because the color and steam is so pretty.

I was never a big coffee drinker until my husband started spoiling me by making a pot every morning. Now I can't get going without it. We drink Jacobs Kronung coffee, a German brand that we got hooked on when we were stationed overseas. We get it now in the stateside military commissaries. I like my coffee in a mug with no sugar and half and half.

As for tea, I have to have a cuppa every afternoon. It's a mid-day treat that I look forward to. No mugs for my tea, though! It has to be in a tea cup with low-fat milk and a pinch of sugar.

Also, no caffeine for me after 6 pm or I'll be up all night surfing YLF!

I am with Rae....caffeine just makes me feel lousy ( though it is not a problem in chocolate, for some reason ! ) Caffeine was never allowed in our house growing up because my sister is severely epileptic.

I drink faux-coffee : generic, decaf every once in a while to warm me up.It probably would rival Inge's dishwater . I LOVE green tea, again decaf, with nothing in it.

The real question for me is : How do you like your oatmeal ??? I am sooooo boring, I know. I put brown sugar in sometimes, or chocolate chips, or vanilla soy milk, or blueberries, you all get the picture.
