I'm back from my trip and your lists helps put my baggage in perspective. I'm lucky I don't need to travel with a hair dryer or with much in the way of lotions and potions and makeup. I guess all the more room for multiple shoes changes

Shoes, yes, and jeans. Sweaters and jackets in the winter, but at least they're not as heavy as jeans.

Shoes or boots, definitely. I usually wear the bulkiest items, shoes (or boots), jacket, jeans and pack a minimal, multi-purpose wardrobe which includes knits for layering and cosmetics in teeny travel sizes. I'm a carry-on girl! You can always buy 'wearable souvenirs' and mail them home once you've reached your destination!

If I'm going somewhere cold...sweaters! If I'm staying somewhere other than a hotel...my bathrobe!

But, usually it's the same as others; shoes, hairdryer. I find I can fit my toilettries in the cracks around other things, so that's not usually too big a deal.

I'm packing today too! Trying to fit a four day trip in an overnight bag. My bulkiest item is my curling iron. I'll make do with the hotel hair dryer as long as I can touch it up with my curling iron.

Cosmetics and toiletries for sure - followed next by shoes! I always wear my bulkiest pair. I also wear as many clothes on my body as possible - to avoid the extra weight charge on baggage! (makes me so mad!) One time when I was on my way back home, my bag was too heavy and so I took out a pair of jeans and wrapped them around my neck - that got the weight down to where it needed to be - AND it made a strong fashion statement on my part! I really didn't care what I looked like - I was exhausted, dehydrated, and obstinate. I stared back at people who stared at me - daring them to make a comment - no one did! No, I'm kidding - it was actually kind of fun - I talked to a LOT of strangers on that trip who immediately knew why I had the jeans draped around my neck and they sympathized and we had some good laughs!

michelle- I hear you on the hair dryer. Once you get used to using your own, it's really hard to use a substitute. The hair just doesn't work out the same.

Shoes, without a doubt. Then like Angie, it's my cosmetics and toiletries. I don't have much in the way of makeup, but I won't compromise on my skin-care regime and that takes up some space!
Oh, and my hair dryer. I have never found a satisfactory hotel hair dryer and refuse to use them.

The toiletry bag for sure. It has both stuff in it for Greg and myself. We need all our lotions and potions when we travel :)

Have a good trip.

Same here - this is why I always try to wear my bulkiest shoes!

Wanted to add that this is why I hate traveling in the winter - I feel like everything is bulky - shoes/boots, jackets, pants as opposed to the summer when I'm packing sandals & dresses!

As I'm packing a carry on suitcase today for a conference, I am increasingly aware of the items that take the most space in my suitcase. My 3 pairs of shoes, not counting the ones I have on my feet (for a 2 day trip, OK, I do have to also wear 3 different outfits) are the bulkiest, followed by my jackets. What about you?
