The one I have is light gray with a wide border&nbsp;pattern of white, light&nbsp;brown and yellow, perhaps a more traditional gaucho style? It's a lot like a blanket.&nbsp;If I had chosen it myself, I would have picked something with more texture and less pattern. It was a lovely gift from a relative.</p> <p>It's beautiful, but it's pretty&nbsp;flamboyant for where I live. It's also just kind of unwieldy and fiddly to wear. Maybe I should just go for it? I'm in Mexico City. We are at a high elevation (higher than Denver, Colorado) so it cools off fast when the sun goes down. Temps are never extreme here like I experienced back in the States. I would say 30s is about as low as we usually get. I'm still trying to get the hang of layers. Vests have become a nice find for me as they add warmth without bulk. Which is another thing that worries me about the poncho, not sure how I would deal with the bulky aspect. I think I would really have to scour to find the right one in terms of weight and cut. </p> <p>Marianna, maybe I should call them capes. It's been 40s in the AM warming up to 70s so a poncho could be a nice layer for chilly mornings and evenings. Plus the cozy factor of course helps plead it's case. </p> <p>I saw one on Una's thread and also Dashelle (sp) posted a fab EF one today. I even looked at the etsy seller Una recommended and love the two tone ones. </p> <p>So -- what makes a poncho modern and updated instead of frumpalicious granny wear? I'm thinking for me it would need some structure around the shoulders if possible. I discovered the same thing while looking for fluid tops and tunics. </p> <p>Thoughts? Share your poncho pics! </p>
