This morning, I had something disappear from my Shopping Cart as I watched. I had been waiting for double points next week during the Half Yearly Sale. It just came back, so I bit the bullet and ordered. If it goes down in price, which I know it will eventually since Halogen jackets pretty much always do, I will get the markdown, but just not the double points.
I've had Nordies remind that I have items in my cart after quite a bit of time has passed, but I think that was only because no one else was actually trying to purchase said items in the interim. Do they notify you if it is in your cart, but they have removed it?

That has happened with me as well. I asked a cashier at Nordies ( and Macy's ) about that recently. Each said pretty much the same thing. They don't ship from warehouses ( though Macy's does sometimes ), they usually ship from stores. And the computer systems can sometimes take 24 hrs to catch up and be accurate. So it could be that when you placed it in the cart, the computer showed that there was one available, but then as the inventory data "refreshed" it showed that it was actually gone. Alternatively, if someone at the store picks it up, it doesn't pop up on the register as "taken". So the associate rings it up.

Una is right; stuff is not truly held in the online cart until you actually buy it. And even then, I have had items disappear in the 24 hours or so while my order is in process since apparently an order ahead of mine snagged the last one in my size. When that happens, Nordies sends an email that the order cannot be fulfilled so the card will not be charged.

Sometimes items will be available in stores even if they are sold out online. If you go to a Nordstrom with the item number, they can perform a search of other stores and have that other store send the item to you. It takes longer to arrive than a regular online order so I prefer online ordering if available.

Otherwise, if there is stock, I think items can stay in the shopping cart for a week or two.
What Diana said. I actually just got an email reminding me that there were items in my cart, which seems contrary to the idea that they are not held.

They're not held when you put them in your cart. It's just a convenient way to keep track of things you are interested in.

(ps-keep it in your cart even if it is not available at the moment, since popbacks will show up that way. It's how I snagged the goddess dress, the bellatrix blazer, and many others.)

I have actually placed orders through Nordstrom to have the order canceled the next day as the item wasn't actually available after all. Perhaps that's what happened.

Cannot comment specifically on Nordstroms because I cannot order from there (sad), but one hour doesn't seem reasonable at all. You should have a wee bit of time to shop.

I just assumed it's like airline tickets - not held until you actually buy it. But that is frustrating. Have never had anything disappear while I'm actually still browsing online that way.

I am interested myself. I was a serious shopper. And in the time I was adding things to my cart, say over the course of an hour as I was shopping, when I went to check out I couldn't as one item in my cart had sold out. I removed it from my cart and could then continue with checkout, but I was still surprised.

I guess I was under the wrong impression, but I thought things would stay in your Nordstrom shopping cart for a limited period.

But yesterday I put one of the featured Theory boxy sweaters in my cart, but I wanted to recheck the sizing, and when I went to consider/order today, it was no longer available--less than 24 hours.

I'm not saying that's wrong, as of course if shopping carts are full, the items are tied up for serious buyers, but I didn't realize that would be true in less than a day.

Is it that some of items tracked as inventory were actually sold out in-store during that time, or just that the cart has no hold function at all? I need educating!
