The big Summer sale starts on July, 1, and usually the first Fall items start popping up by the end of the sales (end of July). Just the way Christmas holiday items start showing up in stores well before Halloween. Retailers do what helps them get the most sales, and they've studied exactly how extending the buying season into earlier territory works with shoppers. I remember reading a year or two ago how back-to-school shopping promotions were taking place around the 4th of July. Well here in New England summer is barely getting off the ground! </p> <p>I LOVE LOVE LOVE autumn and have been looking at all sorts of tall leather boots as they've gone on sale with an eye towards fall, but I don't want to walk into a store full of tweeds and overcoats right now. I want to see summery, airy frocks in bright and breezy colors all around me. After all, we only just cleaned up the patio furniture and polished the grill! I was getting totes ready for consignment, donations and storage...somehow everything went! Didnt notice they were *all* gone for about 2 weeks, so by then it was too late. I had several unique sweaters I'll miss, but a lot were basics so that's ok. Tanya, which size do you need?</p> <p>Stating the obvious, starting the new season so early is a way to get us to buy more stuff. I've noticed this in myself for both spring and fall. At the beginning of the season, the new stuff is new and different so I'm excited to buy. But then the actually really good stuff doesn't come out till the normal height of the season. So they've got me buying all year long when really I should just stick to height of the season to first sales time period. It always bugs me that in August, all that's left for summer is picked over stuff. They seem to want to divide the lines by early spring, spring, summer, early fall, fall, winter. I think they also need to add warm weather fall and cool weather spring. I may even join in on NAS this year, but I'll have to see how long they keep me on at this job first. I think it might be the best way to score some boots at a good price.</p> <p>I think my frock collection has rounded out well for summer, so I'm not really interested in more summer gear. I'm eager to get a head start on fall. Bring it on, I say! I already have my fall wish list filled to the brim: wooly/tweedy winter dress, a pair of slouch harness boots I've been eying, some kind of flat riding-like boot (though it doesn't have to be pukka equestrian style), extended shoulder jacket, dress length cascading cardi, colorblock sweater dress (might be a tall order), plaid shirt, tartan anything, colorful loafers, a fab pair of boyish oxfords, and of course lots of hats, gloves, and scarves. I *love* cold weather dressing.
