Lady Gaga is a good one. For the most part I find DMB to NOT be good workout music. I'm also planning to download some Dropkick Murphy's to my IPOD in anticipation of St. Pat's. I think the Dropkick's could be a good motivator.

I have a Workout playlist on my ipod that I love (and will paste it when I'm at home with itunes accessible), but in the meantime, I am obssessed with Ambling Alp by Yeasayer. It's a weird song but has this deep almost throbbing beat that just gets me moving! Check it out!

Kari, to answer your question, I rarely use playlists to work out. I usually use this time to listen to whole albums from whatever genre phase I'm going through at the moment (not slow classical stuff though).

Taylor, I talk to myself in the car as well. I constantly have to stop myself. Heh, now so many people use hands-free cell phones, I guess I can pretend I'm actually talking on the phone

U2 sounds generally motivate me to run faster. For some reason so does Kelly Clarkson although she is not someone I would listen to otherwise.

I should have stipulated the songs were a specific beat for running fast = like 160 to 170 bpm average. Or in the case of the jazzy Take Five, I run to the half beat. :)
I listen to other stuff as well for pure enjoyment. I do like myself a good beat I can groove to but I have my headbanger mosh moments too.

Of course, I'd be happy to hear about everyone's non-workout music too! How fun.

Angie, I ALWAYS sing in the car. Actually, sometimes I'm not too much of a far cry from that video of John Candy that I linked to, minus the swerving off the road part. I really like to belt it out when I'm listening to Amy Winehouse.

Oh how fun, ladies! I think you can tell a lot about a person by the music they listen to.

Kari, I don't "work out" as such, but can I play too? I always listen to music (and sing) in the car.

At the moment:

Duran Duran (of course)
The Police
Sound Garden
Peal Jam
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Spandau Ballet
Depeche Mode

And I'm one of those people who look ridiculous singing in the car. Not bothered. It makes me happy.

Hi Kari,
Though I’m not working out regularly right now (sigh…it’s perpetually on the list!), here are some tracks that get me going. Some are Canadian artists you may not have heard of, but are worth a listen:

The Killers – Bling (Confessions of a King)
The Joel Plaskett Emergency – Nowhere With You
Christina Aguilera – Dirrty
Modest Mouse – Float On
Hello Goodbye – Here in Your Arms
John Mayer – Heartbreak Warfare, Belief, Crossroads
Shaggy – Hope
Janet Jackson – If
KLF – Last Train to Transcentral
George Nozuka – Last Time (remix)
Misstress Barbara ft. Sam Roberts – I’m Running
B.O.B. - Airplanes Part 2
Eminem – Lose Yourself, Without Me
LL Cool J – Mama Said Knock You Out
La Roux – Bulletproof
Timbaland– Carryout, The Way I Are
Kardinal Offishall – Dangerous
Kesha – she’s so annoying but all her songs are so catchy!

And my 80s-90’s stuff:
The Smiths – Bigmouth Strikes Again
New Order – Bizarre Love Triangle
Depeche Mode – Everything Counts, Personal Jesus

Sadly, I believe I have plateaued back in high school in this area of my life. I am still listening to the same stuff that the boys used to blast in the weight room and during wrestling practice--- Alice in Chains, Rob Zombie, Metallica, AC/DC, Sabbath, and a little Charlie Daniels or Waylon Jennings thrown in. Everyone mistakenly though I was conservative back then, but it sure was fun to see them freak when the realized I could head bang with the best of them!

My playlist is pretty eclectic and basically just consists of different songs that I like and are energetic enough to get me moving. Lately I've been working out to:
several tracks from the Princess and the Frog soundtrack
Cake - Short Skirt Long Jacket
REM - It's the End of the World As We Know It
Lily Allen - Smile
KT Tunstall - Black Horse and Cherry Tree
Paul Simon - Graceland CD (the faster songs)
Bride and Prejudice soundtrack
Sufjan Stevens - Chicago
Hall & Oates - You Make My Dreams Come True
