Kari I think there is a slight element of arty/organic in your style - not hippie boho but more in the patterns and for instance, the green ring of mine you wore. Semi precious stones and other jewelry you have - always a polished version of that element. I could be wrong though.

Very coherent and comprehensive, Kari.

I've been doing this exercise too, for myself, and found it harder than expected (I'm still not done, but I'm doing some introspection before I post on it again) and at the same time, VERY useful for aiming myself right in the year ahead and understanding what can stand to be weeded from my wardrobe.

I think while the lightness and lightheartedness is perhaps encompassed in your 'Cheerful' label, I do see that retro lady-like attitude and silhouette as something you might want to add, as others have said. It may be the simple fact of wearing a dress or skirt most days that makes you a 'lady', but it is the specific silhouettes you choose that make you a 'leading lady' and both that and the colours, patterns, textures and detailing that appear retro (often in a mod way).

I would certainly add a certain level of retro-inspired lady-likeness. And I agree with Beth Ann that there is also some whimsy to the way you play with prints and colors.

I agree with the statements about lightness and the retro leading lady look. Your accessories have a slight touch of retro but not dated.
i am so glad you bought another Bailey 44 because I really love it on you. When I see similar pins on pinterest I often think of you in that dress, and I haven't been on YLF for quite some time!

Kari: I would add to the lighthearted theme. You dress like a grown-up, but you have fun with fashion. Also, while I wouldn't call it "retro," there is a certain Hollywood leading lady element to you -- an attention to detail and romanticism that is rarely seen in modern women. A bit Myrna Loy or Carole Lombard.

Leading Lady Kari! Roll credits!

With the exception of the stripes there are many of your looks which reminds me of impressionist paintings, the way the colours blend and do not jar, the light and shade and textural element. The details are very present but do not overwhelm the whole.

I think you've nailed it . The only other thing I would add is I always see a certain lightness to your overall look - nothing to do with colour it's more the overall feel.

I mentioned in my 12 outfits of 2012 thread that I've been thinking a lot about my most recent style evolution, and carefully considering how I would describe my style as it is today. So far, this is what I've managed to nail down:

Texture. I'm constantly drawn to texture-rich combinations, or even the appearance of texture (such as my lace-printed sweater.) I think that's partly why I loved this outfit so much - the textures of the items I was wearing, particularly the tiered layers of the dress and the nubby, soft material of the coat, felt lush and brought visual interest to the outfit.

Comfort. I've grown increasingly fussy and fidgety in the past few years and I just can't STAND wearing an outfit that doesn't fit right. both of these outfits were failures because the dresses either didn't fit right, or they would shift around too much when I moved. I don't tolerate tight, stiff, itchy, or binding items well because they are too much of a distraction. I have to be able to move and breathe and not worry about what I'm wearing, and that includes footwear - partly why I have embraced very low pumps to such an extent. I don't have to worry about how far I have to walk in my shoes - they are that comfortable. And because of that, I've become much pickier about selecting clothing items and screening them for comfort.

Dressy. I embrace the fact that I'd rather be a tad bit over-dressed for an occasion, and have realized in the past year that I can "bat for Team Dressy" without sacrificing comfort at all. Many of my favorite dresses and skirts are every bit as comfortable to wear as knit pants and tees. I think my friends and acquaintances are no longer surprised that dresses are simply my "uniform", and I'm getting a lot less flack for being "really dressed up" than I used to.

Cheerful. It should be no surprise that bright color combinations make me smile, because I can't stop wearing them. There's also a deeper reason - I periodically struggle with depression, especially during the dark, gray stretches between our Seattle Fall and Springs. While medication and sleep are critical to making it through the winter in one piece, wearing warm, bright colors can literally jolt my energy level into gear in the mornings and motivate me to get out the door with a smile on my face. I also think that warm colors and perhaps a bit of humor in the way I combine patterns together makes me seem a bit more approachable.

Clean. Rough-Around-The-Edges items just aren't me; even if I'm wearing a raw-edged garment or letting my shirt tails hang loose, it's important that I not be wrinkled or frayed.

Fitted. I like outfits that show the shape of my body. They don't have to be tight, but I don't feel comfortable in dramatically oversized, figure-obscuring items. And I've learned that I can show my shape in different ways with blousy items in a way that my eye still finds flattering.

Geometric. I'm into patterns (and mixing patterns), and I'm especially drawn to geometric prints like the green chevron dress, this drapey abstract-patterned shell, and most recently, the "honeycomb" blouse.

Anything that you would add?
