Thank you Kate, Freckles, bran888.
I shall certainly be checking out dress you best!
@bran888-I think that's what I do-but as a teen, I find myself in a t-shirt and shorts rut. Blouses are so difficult for me to find/like/fit in. I'm very picky, and if it's not a solid color in a nice fabric and fits well, I don't buy it. Hence, I have no blouses-just t-shirts.
I have major difficulty with skirts. I have several, but matching them with a t-shirt is proving difficult. All of my skirts are orphaned due to my bewilderment. I may have an outfit, but I can't find it!

oh and one other thing from my own reading -- if you have the high "shelf" hip, then straighter skirts are better than a-lines for you (I have the opposite)

hmm I am also not very skilled in this arena, but it sounds like your bust/shoulder and hips are fairly balanced and that you do have a defined waist. I would think that with a larger bust, you might want to make sure to wear fitted (but not super clingy) tops to emphasize your smaller middle because I would think that with looser fitting tops you might look larger than you are. I would imagine that the hourglass dressing tips would be most helpful to you. good luck!

Welcome Esenin!

It sounds like you're an hourglass (but you knew that already!), though around here we like using a photo more than measurements to determine body type. Given the measurements, and that you can't post a picture right now, I would go with Angie's "hot hourglass" guidelines (look at the blog posts filed under body type) for dressing suggestions. They are very helpful for knowing how to emphasize your curves and your small waist!

I wouldn't worry much about proportions based on measurements of each part of your body. Everything you listed sounds good to me, but even if something is a bit bigger or smaller than is supposedly "normal", it is really only helpful to know in that it can be helpful when shopping. For example, I have skinny ankles, but there isn't really anything I can do to bulk up my ankles. I just keep their size in mind when I'm shopping for things like ankle boots so that I can find a pair that fits me well!

In terms of deciding what to emphasize, it can be fun to play around with emphasizing different parts of your body that you love! The ladies at the academichic blog have periodically done a series called dress your best where each day they dress to emphasize a specific part of their body that they love, or want to show more love. You can look through all of their posts here: http://www.academichic.com/cat.....your-best/ If you scroll down a bit there are links to a bunch of other bloggers that have participated. Maybe this can provide some inspiration!

I hope that this is helpful! And once again, welcome to YLF!

Hi! I'm esenin; I've found this site recently and it is a treasure trove of information and good taste.

I'm starting with the noob's required "body type me?!?!" post here. I am unable to post photos atm, but I will when I can.

I'm a teenager (who has grow 1.25 inches in the past 4 months).
125-130 and 5'4.25"
I'm not entirely sure how to measure everything, but I try my best.
Shoulders: 36
Bust: 36-37 (I wear 32DDD)
Ribcage: 27-28 (directly under bust)
Waist: 27-28
Navel: 33
Hipbones: 34
Seat: 37
Thigh: 21-22
Calf: 13
Ankle: 8 (narrowest part)
My wrist is 6".

Despite all of these numbers, I know as a mathematician that essentially, they mean nothing. The amount of gravitation force exerted on me by the planet I stand on means nothing. Every time I visit my cousins on Venus, I "lose" about 13lbs. An inch is nothing without understanding what a foot is, and me having 13inch calves? I have no idea if they are huge or normal or what...

(Taking all of that into consideration, I am (I think) a short-waisted hourglass with high hips, no butt, and a large bust

I am not only asking what my body type(s) is(are), but are there any disproportionate part of me that would look fab if I did X, Y, or Z? Perhaps my *whatever* is the ideal size and I ought to wear qrs to emphasize it.
I have no clue.

Thanks in advance,
esenin
