Well now, I can't believe the number of votes for skirt over leggings! Lol. That's so Native Wear, lol. But y'all probably aren't thinking of the hippie/gear combos we all here schlep about in to ride public transportation.

But ok. I will wear my dress brocade mini skirt over leggings, I think. Good idea! How often does that get to come out to play after all? I shall have to think about the top...

Although a jumpsuit also appeals...

My kitchen designer consultant was a home economist in her earlier life so all her suggestions were very practical/functional. For her, your bakery wear would be perfect.

I am not sure (have never been to a kitchen designer's party), but I like L'Abeille's suggestions for you.

I would probably wear a column of colour (long pants + top) with a long, flowy topper, and I would let either the column or the topper be colourful.

We were invited to a party a week or two ago at a house in the poshest neighborhood in town. I didn't know the hosts and the house could have been gaudy and tacky, but it wasn't. The hosts were two gay men, and the house was gorgeous, and I loved all of their furnishings - top quality and mountain casual. My favorite style.

I wore my new terrier shirt, cropped jeans, and sandals. I felt just right. It's colder now, so I would substitute long pants and shoes or boots.

I like the idea of leggings and a dress. You'll be warmer, and get to wear one of your dresses.

House party with artsy types you don't have to see again? Come on, Rachy! Let your imagination go. You have tons of stuff you don't have any opportunity to wear in your regular life; what are you craving, or mourning?

What about a jumpsuit? This is one place I bet the bathroom floors will be spotless. Or le smoking? LBD? Tulle skirt with hi-tops and graphic T?

If it were me, I'd probably wear a casual maxi skirt with a T, or else go all Bea Arthur and wear long flowy pants with a sweeping gilet or tunic. YMMV.

As someone who worked in an interior design firm and deals with a fair number of designers, I have to say that the personal style of designers varies widely! I know some who are very simple and minimalist in their styles and others are more colorful and artsy.

If it were me, I'd probably go with something simple but with one of my standout conversation-starter pieces. I'd dress for it similarly to how I dress for a gallery or art event. And of course my choice is always heavily weather-dependent. It's still getting hot here during the day, which squelches some of my dressing options.

It's a great opportunity to wear something creative and fun if you don't get to do that most days in the bakery!

Rachylou - I would think that a skirt would be totally appropriate to a party! I agree that the designer will probably have an amazing house.

I would probably pull out one of my dresses that doesn't see much sunlight, like those I wear to weddings. And if I wanted to be a little more casual in it, I'd pair it with boots and a jean jacket. Or, I'd wear colored jeans/pants with a fun, flowy top.

Another option is this awesome tulle skirt I found at Torrid (see finds). So I'd wear it, pulled up to my natural waist, belt it. Wear a tighter shirt in a neutral tucked in (probably white or black) and a scarf around my neck that had the color of the skirt in it. As a topper, I'd do a moto, blazer or jeans jacket. Brown boots, over the knee socks or patterned tights. Or pumps if I want to up the dressiness.

Let us know what you decide to wear! I definitely think you could have fun with what you wear tonight!

I think interior designers are somewhat like artist in that they all tend to dress colorful and artsy. I would wear something bright or a multi print and or some blingy jewelry. other than that I would just be comfortable.

Rachy - not sure what you have in your closet. I'd wear my skirted leggings, either w cropped top/sweater, or tunic but above skirt lvl, ankle boots. Since I run cold either moto or more likely blazer. Comfy chic. Also great long pendant - the conversation piece!!

well, you can bet the designer's home and party will be highly decorated with every detail well thought out. So maybe that's the way to plan an outfit. It could well be an eclectic mix of people so you probably can't go wrong no matter what you choose.

To your mother's kitchen designer's party? Lol. That's what I'm doing this evening. I trust it's super casual, but not so casual I can wear my bakery leggings... haha!

It's at night. I don't wear jeans. Don't know that I want to wear a skirt. I just have no feeling about this... not on my list of planned activities...
