Thanks for the tips Roxanna; I'm always worried about Lulu purchases; they are SO pricey. I will check these out for sure!

I was just coming back to tell you to check out the On The Fly pants! I know they are not a traditional chino but honestly, they are some of the most versatile pants I have. There seem to have the ideal amount of width - not skintight, just slouchy enough to be trendy but still structured. The straight hems seem to go with any shoe - they are miracle pants!

One caution- go on the website abs check out the reviews first. Some are fine (black, burgundy, olive). Some are made of woven material that doesn’t seem to wear well (the mustard ones). With Lulu their quality is hit and miss so I always read the reviews before I buy.

Those are really cute Nemosmom, and they look structured enough for my style for a great summer look!

Am going to check out the Lulu 'on the fly' pants too. So many great ideas here; thanks everyone! Knowing me, I'll go sideways and get something completely different - but with the tips and inspiration you've all shared and I gratefully accept and appreciate!!

These aren't olive, or tan, and they're joggers, but they look like a good alternative to jeans. Maybe an option if you are still looking for another pair come summer?

Beiges and browns seem to be the colours of 2020, so my vote is the beige tuxedo stripe chinos as a change from olive.

I think exactly the same as Katerina and Cardiff girl, the Old Navy ones first choice and camo ones second choice. But I had also thought you should definitely get olive again, so versatile. And that the camo may be too much for your rather minimalist style.
I feel most of my pants are Notsaf’s holy grail?! I find them easily?

I like the cut of the ON or Lucky chinos for you. I think you would like the structure of a straight chino with some stiffness to the fabric as opposed to the floppiness of the joggers. Jenava's option also looks good but you might prefer full length. I find olive is the most versatile color for bottoms apart from jeans and black. Or maybe I am just projecting !

My first thought was olive joggers but for cold weather they would need to be of heavier material than those pictured. I also like the ON olive chinos and they may fit in better with your style and wardrobe. Since you have been successful with olive as the neutral, you should stick with that color or you will miss it. You could get a second pair of replacement pants in camel or tan or khaki. Pick a shade that best works with your wardrobe and coloring. Even olive comes in different shades, some closer to grey and some more yellow or blue green.

This is holy grail, really: comfortable, not-too-dressy, not-too-casual, non-demin pants! Let me know what you find, because I'm still waiting for the unicorn. I love my 7/8 Hampshires from Boden, but am not sure they'll be in the right colorway for this. (I tend to wear them with a coordinating blazer as a faux suit.)

Higher waist would work with your fitted knits. A darker olive you can wear with black and navy. But the shape? I think a jogger would not have enough structure. I have a tuxedo stripe pant and that stripe is always bothering me with the colors I want to wear ( just me of course).
A higher waisted cropped pant with a straight or wider leg ( not too much) could be fun. Jeneva example or red BR trouser from Angie.

I have a pair of olive drapey cargo pants that are similar to the joggers you show and I wear them constantly in the spring/fall/summer. They don't work as well in the winter for me. I've bought tan/beige khaki pants and then never wear them because outfits always ends up looking a little too preppy or boring. YMMV.

I like the Old Navy and the camo ones best.l have a pair like the old Navy ones from a British brand called Toast. They are a very comfy shape to wear and I feel dead trendy in them.l think both these trousers would work well for you and inject a soupçon of funk into your clean, minimalist style without being too outside your style parameters.

For LB tux stripe chinos - consider sizing down when ordering. Those pants have enough stretch and loose boyfriend shape. Going down the size gives them more fitted/dressier look. Other option - ordering two sizes.
LB got newer ones in the stores in lighter colors: sand, light blue, pale green.

My olive Chinos (Dockers) came from MWWH last year, but I don’t see any on their website. I like a full length pant with the option to roll, rather than a crop or ankle pant, for winter. I did find these on the MWWH site. The first (cargos) have a high waist and are 98%cotton, 2% Lycra - which I find to be a good mix. The second pair are more synthetic, but have a pin stripe.

I own those Lucky Brand chinos with tux stripe - they are very nice, more boyfriend in shape, casual and about mid rise. I'm not sure they are refined enough for your wardrobe and don't think they are suited for winter season.
ON pants often looks good in pictures and disappoint in real life. Still worth the try.
The Sloans from BR is probably the better choice.

I'm dreaming of a pair of warm, caramel-y tan pants for you...would be a similar mid-tone as olive, a harmonious contrast with your knitwear tops, and might be a nice refresh. It's got to be the just-right color though, which I realize can be a tall order.

Of the finds you posted, I like the BR Sloans* best. I agree with suntiger that leggings might not be the best bet with your rather fitted tops. And I don't think the Old Navy chinos are refined enough for you. But I'll be happy to eat my words if you decide differently! :-)

*Speaking of oysters -- well rachylou was -- how about that pale grey color that the Sloans are being offered in? That could be amazing as a gentle light neutral for winter and again I think would be beautiful with your knitwear. Although I can see how it might feel too statement-y....

I like the olive for you esp. for cooler weather (tan would be great for warm weather). But I also like the idea of a tux stripe -- it's a detail that might work well for you.

I agree that camo might be too much. Ditto the elastic bottoms or waist -- that will feel too "busy" for you and bothersome. So don't go there!

Definitely replace the olive moto pants, especially if youre having to frequently adjust them due to a too low rise. The tuxedo stripe chinos caught my eye because they're classic and a little different with the striping.

Watching this thread eagerly as I'd love an 'updated Chino' too!

Also a note that the cuffed bottoms of joggers might pose a problem. For me, bottoms live and die by how easy they are to pair with various types of shoes (boots for colder weather, casual booties for waking, etc etc) and so I need them to be versatile - you might remember that a few months ago I did an exercise where I tried on every single pair of my pants with my boots to find and make note of the ones that worked together. This had been invaluable for getting dressed easily and quickly - but those bottoms that don't allow for versatile shoe pairings (or even socks!) Often languish for me.

Nodding along with NM that camo might seem too statement-y for you, esp with striped tops.

Years ago I had a couple of pairs of Joe Fresh chinos that had cool Moto detailing that wore like iron. Their quality had gone down substantially I think but might still be worth a look.

Definitely replace since they're a workhorse. To me olive is more versatile than tan, because it's mid tone, therefore would have lower value contrast with everything!
Leggings can be a tricky replacement. Do you have enough longer tops that you would wear with that color?
