I bought a pair of earrings and never wore it for like 6 month.. So I finally decided to return it. The lady said" sorry,it doesn't even show up in our inventory anymore, so we can't accept it..." then it occurred to me, that's why it's been beeping everytime I *enter* the store (not leaving) as I've had it in my purse for some time just kept on forgetting. Somehow the security system was confused with my ancient inventory..

I've done it before a few times as well. Years ago I bought a pair of pants in Hawaii whose tags were left on. I had to try about 6 Aussie shops before I found one that had matching tag removers. Some days even without tags on I make those machines buzz. Given up trying to work out why!!!!

Yeah- don't try to remove it yourself. Some of them emit ink when tampered with.

They did not remove the tag off of my new Stuart Weitzman boots at DSW. I think it was because it was left over from wherever they bought it from, and typically they don't use security tags (or at least not this specific kind) and so didn't even think to look for it.

I was very annoyed because I wanted to wear them to the Philly gathering and I couldn't go back to DSW before then. I doubted highly that it was an ink tag because those are usually easy enough to identify, but just in case, I wrapped up the boot securely in an old scarf. Then with a little bit of wrangling and a pair of pliers, I was able to get it off.

I'm sure you can get them to remove it, but if not, it's actually not very hard to remove. Just make absolutely sure it isn't an ink tag.

I hate when this happens. I've had items I'm trying to return set off detectors as I walk into the store. This happens most often with items I've had shipped. Then I enter the store to return, and it causes a fuss because the alarms went off.

Yes, I wouldnt try and remove it yourself- it may damage the material....one time it happened to me as I was leaving NY&Co. and a guy that was standing near the exit yelled at the top of his lungs for me to 'stop!come back here' EVERYONE stared at me as I made my way back to the counter-lol. Since then Ive been vigilant about watching to see it removed!

That actually happened to us as well. We had bought the item in a mall an hour-plus drive away, so rather than go back we went locally from store to store (of different brands) explaining the situation until one of the stores had the right security system thingy to remove the tag. I think, like Taylor said, it must happen a lot because no one acted at all surprised or suspicious.

That actually happens alot and folks are always embarrassed. I would go back with the garment on...they know it is older merchandise...and ask them to remove it:)

I had a pair of pajama pants I bought from Banana Republic that I didn't use for months. I bought them without trying them on,they were folded in such way you'd never see the tag. I took them back & they removed it no problem, no receipt. I wouldn't hesitate to take it back & explain. Especially since the tag was so well hidden.

Slightly embarassing, the whole family went to the supermarket last night for the Friday Night big shop and walking through the front door the security sensors went 'beep, beep, beep'. Ben looked slightly sheepish when he said 'it happens everytime I wear this jacket', when we returned home I found a security tag left inside his pocket. The jacket was bought in January, there is no receipt, should we go back to Fred Perry?
